In recent years, the club has transformed the stadium step by step: the stands were rebuilt and brought closer to the pitch, capacity was significantly increased, and the venue already ranks among the largest in world football. But the work is not over. River are now planning to roof the stadium and expand it even further, adding around 16,000 more seats. 🔵🟡 Meanwhile, Boca Juniors remain stuck between concepts. Over the years, various ideas have come and gone, but none have been carried out. La Bombonera currently holds around 54,000 spectators, meaning that even two such stadiums would offer only slightly more capacity than one expanded Monumental. Ageing and structurally strained, the stadium is also famous for literally shaking during matches. So what’s next for Boca Juniors: stay at La Bombonera, or build a new stadium elsewhere?
