a locality can amend its own zoning ordinance ... any locality with housing needs can loosen restrictions to allow more supply in the market ... beware though - most political donors at local level are developers who may benefit from existing supply or oppose more competition
Robert Moses designed highways to prevent access of beaches and parks by bus. He created a transit authority that profited off highway construction, destroyed community and neighborhoods to build highways, and diverted funds from subways or mass transit. Government planning!
the City repeatedly filled in creeks and inlets to create land and tax the land ... tax assessments represent about 40% of their revenue ... decades of governmental greed causes our modern woes nothing more nothing less!
eminent domain rife for abuse ... communities affected ... Robert Moses a perfect example of the duality: one generation of NY loves him for condemning land for public parks; the next generation hates him for running interstates through their neighborhoods
HR & ES schoolchildren should have a ‘history of boring’ course mandatory followed by ‘don’t need to brake at the tunnel entrance’ and ‘don’t change lanes in the tunnel’ seminars
desegregation has a lot to do with modern land use ... Norfolk public schools required 2-3 federal court orders before integrating ... which gave birth to Virginia beach - the segregationists lived alone and died in princess anne county (annexed) and now we live with the scars
the suspect was about to bail ... the car was slowing ... goes to show best practices for pedestrians nowadays is to run not walk ... concur the lawsuit will hit
VRE is expanding commuter heavy rail service south to Richmond. I’d love to see the march south continue to Williamsburg, Newport News, and Norfolk! (Hopefully on one line with a water crossing.)
Claytor v. Roanoke Redev. & Hous. Auth., 95 Va. Cir. 527, 529 (Roanoke Cir. 2004) ("governmental action, which directly and substantially interferes with property rights, can constitute a ... taking even though no physical invasion or legal restraint is involved.").
Dr. Walter Claytor, who fought to preserve his family's and his community's property rights in the Gainsboro area of Roanoke, Virginia, passes away.
"'He was transformational,' [property rights lawyer Joe] Waldo said of Walter Claytor."

true the City of VB a resort area at the oceanfront until desegregation and then folks left Norfolk and used the City of VB municipality to annex Princess Anne County farmland and make the modern jurisdiction... subdivisions sprung up overnight without organic road infrastructure
The only reason Virginia Beach doesn’t have more interstates is because there weren’t enough black neighborhoods to tear down to build them. They not gonna eminent domain domain Red Mill lol
why the MacArthur mall is not used for the casino confounds me ... its already built for pedestrian traffic and has vehicle access with garages ... plus the City builds a bulkhead at the waterfront where the Dutch suggest letting the water in to fight flooding ...
@theNewCalendar agree the holidays need a close inspection including washington's birthday, undercelebrated, and an expose on april fool's ... legend goes the old new year fell on april 1 and to get folks to convert the authorities re-branded old new yearers as april foolers ...
if i pay you @elonmusk can i upload a video above 512MB? Got an 838MB banger of an #easement case going up on appeal to the fourth circuit court of appeals ... 20' drainage easement between lots 31 and 32 draining nine other acres of their subdivision apparently owned by no one?
@StevenSilvaNV gross negligence also waives sovereign immunity ... i think the ultimate issue is "do you think the private property owner should get reimbursed for the costs of repair?" no matter the name of the remedy ... fun footnote that they arrested the owner sums up the disparity of power
I've paid $32,501 of a $34,000 student loan for my undergrad, and yet I still owe $31,746 of the "principle" because my payments went to interest. This is BS! This is why student loans should be forgiven. It's not the loans we can't pay off, it's the unfair interest rates!
@Arditi_d_Popolo find the other person in the room standing alone, go say hello, introduce yourself, and then ask them what they want to talk about ...
