This is very important but we should treat the matter of irrigation with the urgency it deserves Hon Minister.

Distribution of fartilizer to farmers whose produce will be destroyed instantly by draught will be a waste to 80% farmers and government money.

The previous season was a total loss to farmers in most parts of the country, I therefore advise that ministry should plan on how to support the farmers with either free or subsidized seed in the forthcoming season.

GOVERNMENT LAUNCHES FERTILISER DISTRIBUTION TO FARMERS.

The Government has launched the distribution of 173,913 bags of fertiliser to targeted farmers across Uganda, with the goal of restoring soil fertility, boosting productivity and improving household incomes.

The fertiliser, procured from ITRACOM Fertilizers Uganda, will be distributed free of charge to eligible farmers and farmer groups, particularly those involved in strategic value chains such as coffee, tea and cocoa.

Speaking at the launch, Agriculture Minister Hon. Frank Tumwebaze emphasised the importance of using the right inputs, in the right quantities and at the right time, guided by soil testing and agricultural extension services.

MAAIF has also put measures in place to ensure transparency and accountability. The fertiliser will be clearly marked “Government of Uganda – Not for Sale”, and beneficiaries will not be charged.

The intervention is part of Government’s wider effort to move farmers from low productivity subsistence farming to commercial, productive and profitable agriculture.

Ultimately, the success of the programme will be measured by what happens on the farm, better yields, higher incomes and improved livelihoods for Ugandan farmers.
