Indiana football coach Curt Cignetti's new deal has couple interesting clauses:
* Good faith review of deal if team reaches CFP semifinals that would likely guarantee his annual pay gets bumped up to "no less than third amongst active head coaches" who competed for CFP
@CleHostGroverMC@NotKennyRogers@ScottAdamLipsky Five years of football season tickets, then seven years leading the local @IUAA chapter. You pay the toll to earn the joy of moments like this. Rejoice and celebrate. All credit to Cig and the players who believed in his vision.
As a student at Indiana University back in the 90s, I used to do play-by-play for IU football games at our college radio station, WIUS.
The stadium was always empty, our team always sucked, and the most exciting part of every Saturday was the fact my booth was located right next to John Mellencamp and his then-wife Elaine Irwin.
During halftime of one game my senior year, I was standing next to Elaine in the free food line and asked if she and John would like to stop by our place at Brownstone Apartments later that night for a big party me and my roommates were throwing.
She obviously declined and the whole thing was kind of awkward.
Over the next few decades, as I moved to NYC and then Los Angeles to pursue a career in the entertainment industry, my love for IU football never went away, even though the stadium was still empty, our team still sucked, and Mellencamp ended up dumping Elaine Irwin and turning into a bit of a leftwing nutbag.
I would still watch every IU football game on Saturday mornings decked out in my IU football jersey and always thought in the back of my mind we were only just a few missed opportunities and/or horrible calls away from being a great team.
But all of that changes today.
The Indiana University Fighting Hoosiers football team, led by Coach of the Year Curt Cignetti, just went TO Oregon and manhandled the #2 team in the country.
This is not a typo…it’s real life.
For all the millions of new IU football fans out there, I’d like to say welcome and it’s great to have you on board.
But to the 40 or 50 of us diehard fans spread out across America who were never once daunted in our support of the Cream & Crimson on the gridiron, I’d like to say…we will not go quietly into the night! We will not vanish without a fight! We’re going to live on! We’re going to survive! TODAY, WE CELEBRATE OUR INDEPENDENCE DAY!!!
Indiana has zero five stars, seven four stars and, according to the 247 talent composite, the 72nd most talented roster in the sport. Three spots behind Boston College. That Cignetti has built a national contender there is astounding. One of the best coaching jobs in my lifetime
Best scoring margin through 7 games since 2020:
1. 2024 Indiana: +245 points
2. 2022 Ohio State +243
3. 2023 Michigan: +229
4. 2022 Georgia: +228
5. 2021 Georgia: +223

This is a public safety problem for us, @elonmusk. We need a waiver. We are live on YouTube covering a Severe Thunderstorm Warning with considerable-tagged straight line winds coming through a high density population center of Twitter users / 102 PM / https://t.co/g17Zx1YWyU
Of course! Let’s purchase a company, launch a verification program that makes it impossible to identify real accounts, institute developer programs that dissolve third-parties and integrators, and obviously limit users from merely using the platform. Impressive leadership, Elon.
