Fostering Regional Collaboration for Safer, Sustainable Clean Cooking Solutions!
Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) hosts a key stakeholder exchange and sector roundtable with the Rwanda Standards Board (RSB) at Standards House Bweyogerere, supported by GIZ-EnDev Uganda and in partnership with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (MEMD), Uganda Energy Credit Capitalisation Company (UECCC), Uganda Development Bank (UDB), Uganda National Alliance on Clean Cooking (UNACC), Centre for Research in Energy and Energy Conservation (CREEC), and Centre for Integrated Research and Community Development Uganda (CIRCODU). This initiative underscores our commitment to peer learning, standards harmonisation, and advancing safe, sustainable cooking technologies across East Africa.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Andrew Othieno, Manager Standards -UNBS, highlighted the importance of the exchange: “EnDev Rwanda’s ‘From Lab to Field’ exchange fosters practical, peer-to-peer learning in clean cooking. This visit deepens collaboration between RSB and UNBS on standards development, certification, and laboratory recognition. We are sharing operational insights, exploring pathways for ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation, and aligning on next steps to enhance standards compliance and market confidence. I thank all partners for their support and officially declare this exchange open.”
Mr. Ebong Richard, Senior Standards Officer- UNBS and Chair of ISO/TC285, emphasized the sector’s significance: “Ensuring quality in clean cooking protects health, the environment, and builds consumer trust. Creating a level playing field is essential for sustainable growth.”
Through open dialogue and shared expertise, we strengthen institutional ties, improve testing frameworks, and work towards ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation—driving a resilient path toward a cleaner, healthier future for our communities.

@WakisoDLG Thanks for grading Kayunga-Kawanda road. However, the Ssenge-Kasengejje road was washed away many weeks ago. Some few culverts are needed and the water crossing is fixed. Currently, it is costly (time and money) to travel from one community to the other!
Using organic manure from kitchen waste generated from our office, we have amended the infertile soils to improve their physical and chemical properties to support plant growth. Any office or home can use internally generated organic waste to grow foods in available small spaces.
On this #WorldWetlandsDay, let's celebrate all efforts towards restoring & preserving these vital ecosystems! Let’s reflect on the critical role wetlands play in our ecosystem & the urgent need to protect them.
