The end of an era.

Today, Binance delisted $WAVES. Do not ask me for the reasons; no official explanations have been given, and I will leave my speculations to myself. It marks the end of an era, of course. I remember meeting CZ in Tokyo in 2017 at their new office when they moved to Japan temporarily. He was the first businessman in crypto I’d seen. Most people in crypto back then were either crypto-anarchy/libertarian types or just hobbyists. He, on the other hand, was very focused on the business side. I am glad that it has really worked out for him, despite the setbacks you encounter when dealing with so much money and attention.

For me, blockchain has always been something else. It attracted me as the first approach to create fully protocol-based social interaction, based on a technology that works independently of our wishes and whims. I think the business direction, focusing on trading, and the decentralization direction, focusing on changing how society operates, have now completely split ways, and the WAVES delisting signifies it. The business part of crypto is, of course, much larger, but decentralization ideas are robust and will make their comeback.

New dawn, new beginnings. WAVES is moving forward, launching new products, and working on new governance protocols. A new generation of DEXs will be able to onboard Web2 users to the Web3 world as well as CEXs, and I’ll try to participate in the process. We will, of course, collaborate with all centralized exchanges that want to work with us because blockchain is essentially about collaboration. I wish Binance well and hold zero grudge against them (although they did create a lot of issues for WAVES business-wise). We’re just from two absolutely different worlds that have finally drifted apart.
