We spent months digging into Bliss and Wisdom, the Buddhist group buying up land in #PEI. Here's our story about money, deception and the fight over the island's future, with Jimmy Huang and @HoserLibrarian

@ReporterTeresa David Graeber’s The Dawn of Everything is my current audiobook, and it’s great! A deep dive into the roots of social/economic inequality, and as a bonus it draws heavily on first European encounters with the Mi’kmaq people.
@stewerogers It’s badass. And those tin horns can still be found in homes all around PEI. The early warning system for when the rent collectors came round.
@stewerogers Would also recommend “The Road to Charlottetown” a play by Milton Acorn and Cedric Smith. And Father Bolger’s “Canada’s Smallest Chapter” does a good job of covering the Escheat political movement on PEI.
@katemckenna8 There’s a community group called “Friends of the Farm” that has been working (for many years) with the Feds, City, Indigenous groups, with the goal of turning the land into a park/public gardens. Came close 10 yrs ago, but the Feds backed out when stakeholders’ plan fell apart.
A gallon of baby formula cost $154 but cost $0.31 to make. A gallon of IV fluid cost $178 but cost $0.28 cents to make. A gallon of insulin cost $123,000 but cost $0.68 cents to make. I’m concerned with making these as affordable as #gas at $4.32 a gallon. #perspective
Russia has already been cut off from CNN, Pornhub and Facebook. The US is now working on depriving Russians of MacDonalds and CocaCola. If they keep going with these sanctions, Russians will soon be among the healthiest, well adjusted and best informed people on the planet.
@deanofnothing I get that no one on the left wants to be anti-vaxx in this moment. But it sucks that Pfizer gets to walk around with a halo while practically extorting money from public health agencies and simultaneously using its patents to prevent universal vaccination. Bogus!
@deanofnothing I keep wondering…where is Naomi Klein’s Pandemic Capitalism book? It would practically write itself, no? And it would be an instant best-seller.
@joe_cressy Respectfully, I think we often forget that a lot of those people may have begrudgingly taken the vaccine in order to 1) keep their job 2) attend public gatherings 3) travel freely. There’s a lot of mandate frustration within that 90% too.
In a meeting on EI reforms, very important point raised by @larryrousseau who I know would say this publicly: you see the impact of a small percentage of truckers losing work over vaccines ... imagine when 50% lose their jobs to self-driving trucks.
Glad we’ve set the legal precedent for invoking the Emergencies Act against Indigenous land defenders resisting settler colonialism! Will I be punished for having donated to Unist’ot’en next time they blockade a railway? Who knows! Great job team, love that we’re cheering this on
