@Tgdraw@sofiartworks You’ve hit on it exactly. The point of George’s work is that being good is hard, and the world will not reward you for it, and you will fail at it, but it’s still worth trying towards.
“There is a crime here that goes beyond denunciation. There is a sorrow here that weeping cannot symbolize. There is a failure here that topples all our success. The fertile earth, the straight tree rows, the sturdy trunks, and the ripe fruit. And children dying of pellagra must die because a profit cannot be taken from an orange. And coroners must fill in the certificate- died of malnutrition- because the food must rot, must be forced to rot. The people come with nets to fish for potatoes in the river, and the guards hold them back; they come in rattling cars to get the dumped oranges, but the kerosene is sprayed. And they stand still and watch the potatoes float by, listen to the screaming pigs being killed in a ditch and covered with quick-lime, watch the mountains of oranges slop down to a putrefying ooze; and in the eyes of the people there is the failure; and in the eyes of the hungry there is a growing wrath. In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage.”
@abs_sweetmarie “You think your pain and your heartbreak are unprecedented in the history of the world, but then you read. It was books that taught me that the things that tormented me most were the very things that connected me with all the people who were alive, who had ever been alive.”
I sort of disagree with this. Sort of. I think @hookskat is right that it is an imitation, but it is an imitation of an idea that, as a child, you know you should feel, so you make the motions, hoping to feel it. The trouble is that the adults are also imitating it.
People are missing something important: The reason “Israel” still needs to demand that the resistance to its genocidal evil voluntarily disarms is because after two years, and the total backing of Western barbarism, “Israel” has not been able to defeat the resistance (as opposed to hospitals and babies). It’s totally false to claim that what “Israel” will do next depends on a decision from Hamas or any other Palestinian party (Ask Mahmoud Abbas). To even consider this is to fall into a Zionist trap. No Palestinian is or has ever been responsible for the evil done by Zionism or can alter the course of Zionism by negotiating with it. Palestinians have never “brought it on themselves.” Zionism’s unvarying goal is and has always been the destruction of the Palestinian people and the theft of all their land. Agreements have only ever delayed and postponed, but at no time have the Zionists ever renounced their goals. The Zionists just wait for the right moment to advance again. The only choice Palestinians have ever been given is to accept certain destruction or to resist, albeit with no guarantee of success. That has never been clearer than now. You can coexist with Zionism just as much as you can coexist with a house fire. Either you extinguish it or it consumes you. The world has to put out this fire with all necessary means.

@ErectionWizard@TheWapplehouse Probably not far off when this was filmed. Minimum wage was £5.05/hour in 2005, assume a shift for dinner prep work would be 2PM-7PM. And then he’s just using the numbers to make a quick quip, I don’t imagine anyone in Ramsey’s kitchen is making minimum wage.
@DiabolicalSpuds CIA GUY: Mr. Cheney, this kid says he’s from the future and that 9/11 leads to the PATRIOT Act and a war that kills millions and destabilizes the ME.
DICK CHENEY: Oh shit, my plan’s actually gonna work???
Most old world countries have very little public land at all. The few preserves that remain are cobbled together from the hunting grounds of old kings. They live smaller, poorer, lives, and have to pretend to find majesty in fields and hedgerows. Don't let that happen here.
by the way grok becoming a Boer Nationalist today is just the tip of the iceberg for all the ways Elon is likely manipulating this website to maximize racial hatred to his own benefit
What you have to remember is that these people are cowards. Fear has rotted their souls, and they want to infect you too: they want to obscure the fact that love and solidarity are what make life worth living. They need you to forget that there’s more of us than there are of them
wonderfully robust constitutional republic where you can just be seized and disappeared by the government for engaging in speech that the state disagrees with.
your lawyer will not be able to reach you and most press outlets will respond with a kind of apathetic shrug.
The child tax credit basically ended childhood poverty in the United States and Democrats just unceremoniously let it die and barely ever talk about it since. I think about that a lot.
