If it's truly "crystal clear" why was a pretrib rapture virtually no where to be found within Christendom prior to the 1800's?

@Butch30586594 @David_wthebeard Butch, you're making an assumption that there must be a 7 year tribulation. Thus one would be able to calculate the rapture based on when it starts? The 7 year trib is a debated topic and those who hold to the rapture at Christ's 2nd coming don't often even hold to it.
