WASHINGTON (AP) โ Republican Steve Hilton advances to the general election for governor in California. #APRaceCall at 7:43 p.m. EDT. https://t.co/TS3eIpQI5W
Iโm still holding out hope, but if Steyer gets within 50k votes, then YES Katie Porter and Matt Mahan spoiled CAโs chance at progressive change because of their egos.
๐จ๐ณ๏ธCA GOV 6/9 UPDATE
Now reporting 7.9M votes for Governor 83% counted which suggests 1.66M remains to be counted. Forecast is Steyer will close to ~50k deficit.
Important to note that not every county reports every day. Fresno and Ventura last report was June 4th, so 5 days ago and those are Hilton counties. Likewise Sonoma and Contra Costa have not reported since June 5th and Steyer will pick up there. Yesterday Alameda and Los Angeles had big numbers that boosted Steyer. Today should bring more Democratic votes tallied, but it should also bring positive numbers for Hilton in Orange, Ventura, Fresno, Placer and San Luis Obispo.
Yesterday Steyer gained +87k from about 1.0M ballots. Recall his target to pass Hilton was 120k net per 1.0M. He trails by 216k and his current gain target is now +130k per 1.0M. Current estimate is Steyer finishes behind Hilton by ~50k votes based on post-election trends.
Counties with most votes to count, full list of all counties pasted below:
+ Los Angeles 182k
+ Riverside 181k
+ Sacramento 154k
+ Orange 99k
+ Ventura 91k
+ Sonoma 86k
+ Fresno 81k
+ San Mateo 69k
@scratchthang Agreed, but he ran on an anti-dem establishment message which is similar to Steyer. And even if only a small fraction of his voters went to Steyer, more would than Hilton and every one counts.
@GiveDannyMoney Not sure, he wasn't as progressive, but he represented an anti-dem establishment which could have had some transferability to Steyer. More of his voters would have broken for Steyer than Hilton and every vote will count for the no 2 spot.
๐จ BREAKING: Trump Ally Bari Weiss set to take over CNN after Paramount-Warner Bros merger is complete.
Bari Weiss currently leads CBS, and is expected to serve as lead for both media organizations in the future.
@ksusys Not that the majority would have wanted Steyer but, more would have gone to Steyer than Hilton, which is all what is needed for a GOP lock out. Hopefully you would value the down-ballot effects of that.
@williamjordann Polling was clear for a while that Katie and Matt had no chance. Had they dropped out, only a small percentage of their voters would have been needed to ensure a 2 Democrat race, which would have been a HUGE win down ballot. I hold Katie and Matt responsible.
I endorsed Xavier Becerra. Thatโs why I hope Republican Steve Hilton remains in the top two. The latest vote updates show Hilton will likely beat Steyer.
Tom Steyer has been locked out of the California governors race.
DDHQ projects Republican Steve Hilton will advance to the November election where heโll run against Democrat Xavier Becerra.
