Two campaign photos. The first is from eight years ago, taken the day after @brettpsmiley withdrew from the race. The second is from yesterday, when he was elected the next Mayor of Providence. Enormously proud to be on #TeamSmiley then, now, and always.
Aside from how much weight these endorsements hold, it’s also worth noting that both Sen. Quezada and Rep. Diaz endorsed @gonzaloque in the 2022 Democratic primary instead of @PVDMayor.
“Let’s return to a politics of respect & thoughtful disagreement. Let’s let tragedies be tragedies & refuse to let them be exploited for political means. And let’s return our collective focus to what matters–improving the lives of people in our community.”

#WATCH: Providence Mayor Brett Smiley and police chief Col. Oscar Perez receive a standing ovation from the crowd at the AMP Friday night. Video by @SamKnoxTV.
Very proud of the leadership that @PVDMayor has shown throughout this entire ordeal. Poised, laser-focused, and calming. Everything you’d want from a Mayor in a crisis.
Mayor Brett Smiley and law enforcement officials have confirmed the individual responsible for the Brown University mass shooting has been found deceased.
Claudio Manuel Neves Valente died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in New Hampshire after warrants were issued charging him with murder and related offenses.
Our hearts go out to the victims of this awful tragedy. Thank you to our law enforcement partners as well as all of our neighbors who were instrumental throughout the investigation.
I am forever grateful for @PVDMayor’s steady hand during this dark day for Providence. Proud to call him a friend, a mentor, and one of the finest public servants I have ever known.
Tonight, we gathered in the wake of the devastating shooting at Brown University, grieving the lives affected.
In a moment marked by fear and heartbreak, we chose to come together. As we mark the first night of Hanukkah and prepare to celebrate Christmas, we’re reminded that light does not erase our community’s loss, but it can help guide us forward.
My hope is that tonight offers the first flicker of healing and serves as a reminder that we will get through this together.
@BrianCNewberry Hey Rep! Spot on. Kim served as a prosecutor under three AGs and prosecuted hundreds of felony domestic violence and sexual assault cases.
So excited to see my friend @AhernKim launch her campaign for AG! Kim is a dedicated public servant and fierce advocate for her community. At a time when our entire legal system is under attack, Kim is the right leader for this moment.
President Biden has dedicated his life to bettering our country, and I join my colleagues across the country and around the world in thanking him for his extraordinary service. From revitalizing our economy, to passing unprecedented climate legislation, to making historic infrastructure investments, to helping cities like Providence build back better after the pandemic, the Biden-Harris administration has an exemplary record of accomplishment over the past four years. Democracy is on the ballot this November, and it's time to come together as a party and prevent a return to the disastrous Trump years. I look forward to hearing from the President later this week.
Almost out of nowhere, Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo is a rising star in the Democratic Party. This Sunday, she tells Lesley Stahl about her new projects that could touch the lives of every American. https://t.co/mEN4CWeXMW
