We’ve reached a point where any mix of solutions to our nation’s economic problems is going to involve the wealthiest Americans contributing more. https://t.co/m0zXuXeC43
All know that a strong America is the best ally of peace—the world’s avaricious dictators of Russia, China, North Korea and Iran are hesitant to invade and brutalize in the face of 1) American strength and 2) American resolve. Our tepid response to Russia’s invasion of Georgia and Crimea surely contributed to Putin’s decision to invade Ukraine.
American strength is greatest when we have friends that stand with us; we must not let economic squabbles fray the bonds of our alliances.
American resolve is greatest when we stand with the victims of oppression and invasion. After Russia invaded Ukraine with hundreds of tanks and hundreds of thousands of troops, America - together with Europe - rallied to give Ukraine the weapons and aid to defend itself. Three years later, Russia continues its brutal assault. We must not let personal squabbles weaken our resolve to stand with the freedom fighters and to oppose the authoritarian aggressors.
Lasting peace will only be achieved if America demonstrates strength and resolve and if Ukraine is certain that it will not be invaded again. Anything short of that would elicit only temporary celebration; it would open the door to global conflicts that we may be unable to contain.
Sen. Mitt Romney delivers farewell address on the Senate floor, saying he leaves “with the recognition that I did not achieve everything I’d hoped.”
“Among other things, the scourge of partisan politics has frustrated repeated efforts to stabilize our national debt.”
My father was the CEO of a major car company and a three-term governor. Yet, when I asked him at age 88 what gave him the most meaning in life, his answer was: “Raising you four kids.” His dedication to family has stayed with me my whole life. To all dads, happy Father’s Day!
Listen and learn something from one of the only R members of the Senate who dares talk this soberly and candidly about the big challenges we face. Not a single ounce of partisan hackery or performance here. This is what competence sounds like.
It’s time for Putin to be fearful of what we might do. This is war. People are dying. We need to get aircraft to President Zelenskyy and the people of Ukraine immediately.
I join the world in awe of true heroes: the courageous President Zelensky, the brave Ukrainian soldiers, the citizen armies, the mothers cradling frightened children, and the journalists risking their lives to bring us truth. God bless them and God bless us to never forget.
Today, I reflect on the love and support @AnnRomney has shown our five sons. What a blessing she has been in all of our lives. I also remember the values and lessons my mom taught me. To all of the moms out there—happy Mother’s Day!
