Today, all eyes are on the Kingfisher Development Area as Uganda marks a historic milestone in its oil and gas journey, the official naming of Uganda’s crude oil.
With the drums beating and the nation watching, we celebrate the progress, partnerships and people bringing Uganda closer to First Oil.
The ceremony is graced by H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the Prime Minister, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, and other distinguished dignitaries.
Today, the Cabinet Minister for Energy and Mineral Development, Hon. Dr. Monica Musenero Masanza, undertook an oversight visit to the Kingfisher Oilfield ahead of the Presidential visit scheduled for 2nd September 2026.
The delegation toured key project facilities, including the Central Processing Facility (CPF), the active drilling site at Pad-2 and the Waste Management Facility. They received updates on project readiness, ongoing commissioning activities, National Content, infrastructure development and community development initiatives.
With major infrastructure complete and commissioning activities ongoing, the Kingfisher Project continues to progress safely towards production, creating lasting value for Uganda.
Energy for a Better Future.
Today at Nakasero, I met Mr. Aliko Dangote and we discussed the proposed East African regional refinery.
I informed him that from the very beginning, we have always opposed the export of raw materials without value addition. That is why Uganda delayed oil production because we insisted on first having a refinery. Without refining our oil, it would not make economic or strategic sense to simply export crude oil while others benefit from the finished products.
I, therefore, welcomed the idea of a bigger regional refinery because our objective is African integration and shared prosperity. We cannot continue operating as fragmented and weak markets. If East Africa works together, such projects become more viable and beneficial to our people.
Uganda is ready to support the regional refinery initiative while also continuing with the development of our own refinery in Hoima.
