The Nick Novak 2025 #CFL Specialist Showcase is set to feature some of the best free agents available, including π¦πΊ Punter Joshua Sloan from the University of Memphis!
Born in Werribee, Australia, @joshtsloan worked with Prokick Australia before heading to the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), where he spent four seasons with the Miners.
During his time at UTEP, Sloan earned recognition not just for his punting, but also for his academic achievements, making the Conference USA Commissionerβs Academic Honor Roll and Medalist lists for three consecutive years.
Sloan made a big impact in 2021, punting 64 times for a 39.5-yard average, with 20 punts landing inside the 20-yard line (29%) and 25 resulting in fair catches (39%).
Over the next 2 seasons at UTEP, his numbers continued to improve, averaging 44.3 yards per punt across 96 attempts, placing 34% of his punts inside the 20-yard line, and forcing 33 fair catches (34%). This earned him Second-Team All-Conference USA honours in 2023.
For his final season of eligibility in 2024, Sloan transferred to the University of Memphis, where he continued to play at a high level, punting 47 times, for an average of 43.5 yards per punt.
He placed 19 punts inside the 20-yard line (40%) and forced 25 fair catches (53%). Additionally, he took on full-time holder duties for the first time in his collegiate career, further demonstrating his ability to adapt to overcome new challenges.
Throughout his collegiate career, Sloan punted 238 times and forced 94 fair catches, nearly 40% of his total punts. Now, he'll look to impress scouts at the 2025 CFL Specialist Showcase on February 9th. Stay tuned for more spotlights as we get closer to the big day!
