There’s a lot of absolute shite going around about @spiritofshankly - all because of a letter seeking clarification on the club ownership, nothing major.

Surely if you care about your club, you want to know what’s going on with it? This isn’t a video game. Real people’s lives are affected by this massive football club. So, one group wanting to find out some info on a major sale of part of the club is just something that is done on the basic level really.

If you’re a supporter, you should want to know what’s happening and why.

SOS are one supporters group that is part of the board. They have their own members, votes and elections within that, as do the others.

The supporters’ board is there to represent all the fans of Liverpool FC. From aspects about ticketing, disability and major things such as stadium moves and so on.

The other groups that make up the board are:

LDSA - Liverpool Disabled Supporters Association. Represents disabled fans access to the club (when it suits Ted).

Kop Outs - the official LGBT+ supporters' group. Self explanatory what they do really.

Spion Kop 1906 - organises flag displays, banners, tributes and so on.

Official Liverpool Supporters Clubs - They cover supporters’ groups from around the world and represent those fans.

Liverpool Women’s Supporters Committee - They cover the women’s game.

CultuRED - covers different faiths and cultures.

There are elections for each group and member votes. If you think it’s just one fella with a social media account, you’re very mistaken. They have a real impact at high levels within the club.

I’ve personally seen the impact of both SOS and the LDSA and they’re mostly positive. Just like most groups, you do have internal factions and people getting too big for their boots, they’re usually resolved via elections though.

Without fan representation and people having a vested interest in their own club and community, it just completely loses what the club is supposed to be.

In my opinion, you see a lot of the new fans just simply wanting the club to spend whatever they want in an unsustainable way so they can brag that “their” club has a certain player. Or worse, the “Player FC” fans.

If the club was to be badly run and to cease to exist tomorrow, that affects a lot of people’s daily lives. The unaffected people just go and find another club to “support” and that’s that.

If the club was to do things that negatively impact certain groups then they’re represented and soon stopped.

The major gripe of foreign fans is “SOS don’t represent me”. They represent us all. But you have your local LOSC for that - join in, they don’t bite!
