I can’t let this go unchallenged.

That young man was, in my opinion and based on the video below, the clear victim of an assault.

The video shows, for reasons that are entirely beyond my comprehension, the officer steaming directly into the victim.

The officer made no effort to prevent the attack or apprehend the men who had just administered the violence.

What I see in the video is the officer using speed and aggression at the moment of peak danger and confusion against the victim.

The victim then controls himself the moment he realises it is now a police officer attacking him and not one of the multiple men who were attacking him a fraction of a second earlier.

In my opinion Birmingham Police should drop the charges against this young man and ask the officer why she went for the victim on the ground and not the attackers!

Once again, @TheSun has demonstrated its total lack of both journalistic ethics and basic human decency.

The man featured in this article is a police officer. He was viewing child sexual abuse material as part of ongoing investigations. He was deeply traumatized by what he saw, and he does not deserve to be pictured with such a disgraceful headline.

Officers who are required to look at this kind of material are devastated by it. PTSD is pretty much a guarantee. This work shows you the absolute worst of human nature, things you couldn’t have imagined even in your darkest, most twisted nightmares. I’ve worked these cases. I’ve seen the things that pedophiles enjoy, the things they do to kids — and toddlers, and babies, and even infants. Sometimes the victims die. Sometimes you can tell they’re going to. And even when there’s no violence involved, the victims — children — are suffering right in front of you and there’s nothing you can do about it. For people who are wired to protect others, there’s very little that’s worse.

The Sun owes this man and his wife a printed apology and a clarification. It is no small thing to stand by a spouse who works law enforcement of any kind, and to stand by a spouse who is traumatized from working CSAM cases is even more difficult. These two people deserve better than this deliberately misleading headline.

Just over six months after Australia became the first country in the world to ban social media for under-16s, the policy has been exposed as a failure.

Research suggests up to 85% of children under 16 have continued to access social media despite the ban.

Rather than acknowledging that prohibition has not worked, the Government's response is more government power.

It has now introduced the Online Safety Amendment (Strengthening Enforcement for the Social Media Minimum Age) Bill 2026, which has already passed the house of representatives.

This new bill proposes massive civil penalties of up to $99 million and significantly expands the information-gathering powers of the eSafety Commissioner.

Under the Bill, the Commissioner would be able to compel "any person" to produce information or documents that are believed on "resaonable grounds" to be relevant to compliance with the ban.

These proposed powers extend beyond social media companies to "any person".

This is the predictable pattern of government.

When a policy fails, they don't back down or admit failure, they double down.

There is no doubt social media can harm children. But ever-increasing bureaucratic powers are not the answer.

Real online safety begins with equipping and empowering parents.
