I underestimated Charlie Kirk.

Yes, I knew who he was. I'd seen some clips. Appreciated his articulation. Admired his courage.

But I wasn't subscribed to his channels or his podcast. I'd never been to any of his events. There's a lot out there to consume, and only so much time in a day.

I've seen more now. I see who he was. I see who they hated. I see why they celebrated.

And why it had to be him.

After a respite of tears, I've had more moral clarity today than I've had in years. I have so much inspiration I feel like I could explode. 100-hour days would not be long enough to transcribe the symphony of thoughts in my head into the words and music that I want to share.

Not to fight the left, but to do what's right.

I hate that he had to die. But sometimes humans need a wake up call.

I know I'm not alone - what I'm witnessing is something I've never seen. I was around for 9/11. We were devastated. We mourned. We had vigils. We even united for a short time. But the towers didn't leave behind a message. A legacy. A testimony.

Go to church tomorrow and praise God y'all.

In first-century Jerusalem a man named Stephen was on trial before the Sanhedrin. He was accused of blasphemy. In reality, his blasphemy was "ideas we don't agree with". His true crime was speaking against the current societal narrative. He was trying to direct people toward goodness and truth in a broken world. His accusers didn't listen though. Instead, they hardened their hearts. They gnashed their teeth. They'd already twisted his words in their minds and boiled each other's blood into a frenzy demonic enough to drag him out of the city and stone him to death, and there was nary a forthright notion that could change their cemented perspectives.

They could not refute his words, so they went for the throat that spoke them. Stephen died for being too correct.

I knew this was coming. I didn't know the date, or the exact target. But they've been calling for this. They made the cartoons. They printed the magazine covers. They wore the shirts. They slanted the news. They indoctrinated the campuses. They demonized on all the late night talk shows. They hardened their hearts. They gnashed their teeth. They missed Trump. Then missed again. I knew they'd reload. I feared for all those brave enough to be a candle in a world of shadows.

Of course it had to be Charlie. No one has had a greater cultural influence on young people in our generation. At 18 years old, he founded Turning Point USA, which has grown to have a presence in over 3500 high schools and college campuses nationwide. It's stated mission is to "guide citizens through development of knowledge, skills, values, and motivation, so they can meaningfully engage in their communities to restore traditional American values like patriotism, respect for life, liberty, family, and fiscal responsibility." By the time he turned 30, tens of thousands would gather to see him speak. Millions watched and shared his videos. He was as responsible as anyone for waking America before it was too late to fight our would-be authoritarian overlords. A champion of free speech, he gave a microphone to anyone, even and especially to those that hated him. He was endlessly berated, caricatured, and mocked for his beliefs. He always conversed cordially and respectfully although the favor was rarely returned.

His ideological adversaries made the ultimate confession that their ideas couldn't be advanced through reason by resorting to violence. Brutal, fatal, choreographed violence. They could not refute his words, so they went for the throat that spoke them.

Charlie died for being too correct.

It's understandable to ask why. Why would God let this happen? Why, in a carbon copy incident last year, was Donald Trump spared then and Charlie Kirk not spared now? I can't provide an exact answer. I don't know all of God's ways, but I know they're greater than mine. I know that for those who love God all things can work together for good. I know that Charlie's legacy will live on in ways we cannot now fathom. I know that he sealed his testimony with his own blood (as did all of Christ's disciples), and his words of wisdom have been and will be an inspiration to countless millions.

And sometimes, God lets the blood of the innocent stand as a witness against wickedness. Not only did the world see a man's life gruesomely taken from him for simply having peaceful conversations with people, we saw diabolical dancing on his grave before an obituary could even be drafted. Legacy newspeople, when not opining that the bullet could have come from a supporter "shooting his gun in celebration", suggested that Kirk deserved his fate due to his blasphemic "hate speech" - again, "ideas we don't agree with". Social media was spattered with similar sentiments. The cowardly gunman not only killed an articulate, passionate leader of men, he killed a husband and father of two small children. Nonetheless, something that calls itself "Bluesky" was alight with all the giddiness of a pre-teen slumber party, romping and rejoicing in murder. Ghouls found their way to his wife's X account and posted laughing emojis. It's all right there, out in the open for everyone to see, just as we can all see what they did to Stephen. You can be certain that the Sanhedrin and their ilk justified their actions in exactly the same way and danced the same devilish dances to the same morbid music.

None of that makes the shock of what happened any more bearable, especially for his beautiful young family. I mourn for them. Though Charlie was taken up in glory, his wife and kids will grieve for the rest of their mortal lives. I know many people that cried today. People much older than me and much younger. Thirteen-year-old boys who never show emotion wept openly. This is bigger than people think. I don't think this many tears have been shed in our country since another awful mid-September day almost a quarter century ago.

Charlie Kirk did everything the right way, and they shot him for it. It wasn't just an attack on him, it was an attack on democracy. On civility. On decency itself. We are understandably saddened. We are righteously angry. What do we do with this sadness and anger? Where do we go from here?

Even greater than Charlie's love for country was his love for Jesus. While patiently and poignantly answering questions about politics, he always pointed people toward Christ and his gospel. He was an ardent supporter of the Constitution, but he knew it wasn't more important or more fundamental than holy scripture. He was an eternal optimist despite the darkness that bombarded him daily. When asked about his thick skin, he said he didn't have such, but rather it was the armor of Christ that empowered him. Enlivened him. Charlie lived for Jesus, the Logos. He knew the difference between Logos (reasoned speech, logic, and truth to move an audience) and Pathos (coercion through feelings and fear). He understood that a desirable civilization can only be built on Logos, I believe because of his understanding that Christ is God’s earthly embodiment of reason and truth - his Word. His Word, it should be remembered, that was also killed for being too correct.

I think Charlie would want us to do the same. He would want justice, but he wouldn't want us to degenerate into cathartic rage. He'd want us to continue his legacy of informed civics and courageous wisdom. He'd want us to follow his example of returning bad faith with good. He'd want us to continue the endless fight for freedom.

I want justice, but I do not want a public execution of the executioner. I would not watch such a thing. I will not become the monster that stalks me. I will not go for the throats of those that disagree with me. I will channel my anger into positive action. My frustrations will fuel me, but not toward fatalism. Rather, toward leaving my own legacy of life, liberty, family, and faith.

Simply put, I too will live for the Logos.

Inflation and immigration are important issues, and concerns about how the Biden/Harris administration handled/exacerbated those issues likely helped sway the election. But the red wave that we saw wash over the country last week was about something much deeper. It was a unified referendum on the infestation of an ideology. Woke finally outstayed its welcome.

Americans stood up together and said we will have no more of this social imaginary. We will no longer live by the following lies that have been slithering through society for far too long:

- It’s morally acceptable to mistreat, slander, and discriminate against white people or anyone deemed not a “person of color”.

- There’s nothing sacred about family and it’s not the building block of society. Women are better off being married to the government.

- Men and women are competitors, not companions.

- There are no ethical or emotional ramifications associated with abortion.

- Freedom of speech is not a right. We are not allowed to say out loud what we see with our own eyes if it’s not politically permitted.

- Biological men should be allowed in women’s sports and private spaces.

- Biological sex is a social construct and can be discarded at whim.

- Children should be the subjects of social experiments.

- People will be happier living in the alienating aftermath of the sexual revolution than by the loving laws of God.

- We should make college admission and employment decisions based on skin color.

- America has no redeemable qualities. It was founded to protect the institution of slavery and colonial Americans were the inventors and sole practitioners of racialized slavery.

- Having a PhD or being a celebrity means you are more important than others. As if condescension should ever transcend common sense.

- The government is the source of all truth and the arbiters of what is and isn’t “misinformation”.

- There are no such things as objective truth, objective beauty, and objective goodness.

Lies, all of them. The only mystery is how so many came to believe them.

Off with the lies. On with the pivot. On to a future where truth can flourish, and we can flourish with it.

There are a lot of words that could describe what happened yesterday. The word I believe describes it best: reprieve.

We were on the brink. A great show of courage, determinism, and patriotism has staved off the charge of that which would destroy this country. It was beautiful to see so many stand up and declare that we are Americans and we will not go quietly into the night. Like the 47th president, we were given a second chance that few thought possible.

By the merciful hand of God we were diverted from the cliff, but there’s a lot of wilderness between where we are and our destination of liberty and truth. We’ve been blessed with good leaders that can help get us there, but we the people have to work for it. Keep your shoulder to the wheel. Keep your guard up and let us not be susceptible to the tentacles of tyranny and temptations of idleness. Let us disregard the litany of lies that will continue to be delivered to our doorsteps. Let us build our homes, our churches, and our communities on the rock of our redeemer that they may withstand the whirlwinds that are sure to come.

The Republic wasn’t razed, but it still needs to be rescued. Take a day of gratefulness, but tomorrow remember it’s a reprieve, not a resolution.

Election week predictions: chaos and shenanigans. I can’t predict the “winner”, but I can predict the aftermath.

If Trump wins, there will much gnashing of teeth and outbreaks of violence. Lost souls with glazed over eyes that have been brainwashed about “literally Hitler” taking office will roam the streets and break things. There will be more assassination attempts. There will be calls to abolish the Electoral College in favor of mob rule. The abortion shouts will be ever more deafening. Legacy media will froth at the mouth but secretly be thrilled by the prospect of four more years of having something to froth at the mouth about.

If Harris wins, we will see heightened attacks on free speech and the rest of the 1st and 2nd amendments. We’ll hear more about how the Constitution is a “living document”, which means it’s dead. Articles will appear about a secret cabal of Big Tech and Big State operatives who colluded to “save our democracy” by ensuring that the Democrats won again. Big Food and Big Pharma will continue abusing citizens for big profits. The federal government will continue its exponential bloat as each individual person grows smaller and smaller. Illegal immigration will continue to ravage the country. World War 3 will be underway within the next few years. They’ll find a reason to not hold another election in 2028 because of WW3 or some other emergency.

A Trump administration offers some hope for the future, if the team he’s assembled is allowed to purse their stated goals.

A Harris administration would be the tipping point of the American experiment, and there would be no recovery.

Either way, dark times loom. It’s just a matter of duration and depth. We’ll need each other. And we’ll need the Holy Spirit with us more than ever.

I’m praying for America. And more importantly, for Americans.

Kamala Harris has no interest in free speech, and would be completely incapable of formulating an argument for why it’s in the Bill of Rights in the first place. She has no qualms about censoring those whom she deems as spreaders of misinformation.

Trump, on the other hand, has assembled a team of people who would fight for free speech. Tulsi Gabbard and RFK Jr. have been censored themselves and they know what’s at stake. Elon Musk bought Twitter and turned it into X with the purpose of breaking the monopoly on government-controlled social media.

The press’s job is supposed to be to fact check the government by talking to the people. A Harris administration would mean more of the opposite - the press fact checking the people by talking to the government.

If you claim to be liberal, please think about this. Free speech is the foundation of liberalism. If you’re not free to speak, you’re not free to think. And if you’re not free to think, you’re no longer human.

One of the administrations on the ticket has patriotic individuals staking their reputations to fight for the people. They’ve spent their lives solving difficult problems and are putting themselves at great risk in challenging Big Pharma, Big Tech, Big Food, and Big Brother. The other administration on the ticket has career politicians that are fighting to make the government even larger than it already is.

Choose wisely - your future self that might disagree with something the government says depends on it.

Recently one of the network TV propaganda programs was reporting that in some important poll, @KamalaHarris had an 18% lead in the “white college graduate” demographic. They were proudly touting this as the largest margin in history and a great victory for Harris.

Should we be surprised though? We should probably expect that recent college graduates would vote for someone that speaks the same kind of vapid word salads that they read a thousand times in their social science textbooks. We should probably expect that recent college graduates would vote for a “woman of color” (their term) for no other reason than her gender or race, because they’ve just been indoctrinated for 4+ years about how white men are evil and the less like them you can identify as, the better person you are.

I’ve heard @benshapiro describe Harris as someone that “dumb people think is smart.” What’s interesting is that I’ve heard leftists describe @jordanbpeterson in exactly the same terms - he’s called “the stupid man's smart person” on his own Wikipedia page, with no less than four publication sources deeming him such. Those opposing statements speak of two different realities. Only one of them can be true. Which is it?

Peterson has a PhD in clinical psychology. He’s taught at Harvard and the University of Toronto. He’s written multiple best-selling books - books with substance and meaning, not platitudes. He’s toured the world over where he speaks on complex and consequential subjects in sold out arenas for 1-2 hours at a time without a script. He’s started his own academy. He’s dissected the Bible and elucidated its wisdom in ways that lifelong Christians hadn’t fathomed. He can recall and summarize books and philosophers that he read decades ago. He’s inspired millions of people to change their lives for the better. He’s stood up to the most hostile of interviewers with wit, wisdom, and well-articulated arguments. He’s debated prominent intellectuals like Sam Harris and Slavoj Žižek. In his most recent podcast he discussed quantum physics and general relativity with leading Astrophysicist Dr. Brian Greene.

Give whatever kind of credit you will to Harris for maneuvering her way into being one manipulable election away from the Presidency, but look through the preceding paragraph and point to just one intellectual feat that she could ever dream of accomplishing. Just one.

What the white college graduate poll results reveal is not actually a victory, but a catastrophic defeat for the institution of what used to be known as “higher learning” in the United States. An institution that used to seek truth above all else, but now eschews truth in the name of Identitarianism. An institution that churns out marionettes of Marxism so bent on destroying the patriarchy that they actually believe that Kamala Harris is smarter than Jordan Peterson.

Now of course, Harris is not competing with Peterson on the ballot. But the reality of Harris being a smart person IS competing with the reality of Peterson being a smart person. It’s “your truth” versus “The Truth” all over again, with ever-increasing stakes. Which of those realities we vote for is what truly will determine the fate of our country and the rest of Western Civilization.
