One can’t help but to notice the gross misrepresentation of Afghanistan in Hollywood these days, from movies and television series on Korengal valley in Kunar, to Kandahar, Herat, Mazar, Kabul and Bagram - the lack of understanding about language, local traditions and even clothes is staggering.

The US’s military adventures and diplomatic involvements in Vietnam, Iraq , Syria and Afghanistan will be a massive part of Hollywood for years to come, so why not seek the expertise of those western expats with cultural and linguistic understandings of the country together with those knowledgeable Afghans who are experts in their language and culture?

The complex realities of Afghanistan need to be depicted with authenticity and accurate portrayal.

UNFPA Afghanistan wrote online that 318,000 people need humanitarian assistance following the Herat earthquake, 76,000 are women and girls of reproductive age and 7,400 are currently pregnant.
UNFPA also wrote that the organization “has mobilized partners to provide maternal and newborn care in the affected communities to ensure safe births.”
