President @KagutaMuseveni thanks South Africa’s medical team and his family for caring for his wife, yet denies @kizzabesigye1 the same opportunity to return to Geneva for medical treatment and family support.

@kizzabesigye1 is innocent unless proven guilty. He deserves the same rights as the President’s family, and every Ugandan.

All Ugandans must have equal access to necessary medical care, the support of their families, and protection under the law, regardless of their status or political views.

Equal rights. Equal medical access. Equal dignity. Equal protection under the law for every Ugandan.

I am hurt, angry and anxious. @kizzabesigye1 has been returned to his prison cell, and his sisters who have been caring for him at the prison hospital have been sent away.

He is still extremely weak and needs family care. Prison conditions will undermine his recovery. Yet Judge Baguma has brushed aside his medical condition and carried on with this sham trial. They may even carry him to court tomorrow.

So when the video of Sam Mugumya leaked last week, the military (and the state) instead of releasing him is threatening me. Anyway, sometimes it’s even hard to tell if it is the military or the state because of the decentralized impunity… but I have received a couple of calls; one from someone that said works with “special forces” identified himself as Elly Tumwine and was demanding to know who gave me that video. I told the person that even if I knew its source my training as a journalist wouldn’t allow me divulge sources but I didn’t even know its source because I got it from social media. The person insisted that I was the first to share it and that they have technology to show that. A couple of days later I received another call. This time there were no introductions but the person said they are concerned about my life although they “like the work I do” but publishing that video of Mugumya “was not wise”. Yesterday, I was told (by a different person that doesn’t know about these calls) of a plan to abduct me because the video I shared has caused so much anger and led to some reshuffle.. I am both informing the state that is supposed to protect its citizens of these threats and Ugandans. #SaveSamMugumya #JusticeForSamMugumya

My dear sister, leave that country. Uganda is no longer safe. We are in contact with EU stakeholders to prepare a travel to Uganda advisory note to tourists. If Ugandans are not safe in their country, foreigners shouldn't be travelling to Uganda. We hear of many cases od abduction.

Next month, Comrade Sam Mugumya will mark a year in enforced disappearance at the hands of the Ugandan state. He endured 8 years in a terrible prison in the DRC. But at least then, his elderly mother knew he was alive. She had hope. Now his own country has disappeared him!
