So, #DrishyamTheConclusion has been watched...
Till 3/4ths of the film, @ajaydevgn's Vijay Salgaonkar hardly looks up at any character. He always has his shoulders drooped, eyes lowered, and walks around like a man waiting for the inevitable. Even his wife Nandhini (@shriya1109), and their daughters have nothing to do. They also retreat into their shells and wait for the ball to finally drop. Its been two films and a decade already since an uninvited guest entered their lives and left them as a monumental wreckage...
You know things are going to change, and Vijay will have the last laugh, or in this case, the last blink of the eye. But till that point where we are hit by one revelation after another, we have to go through some verbose dialogues and hamming, courtesy the likes of the ever-dependable Jaideep Ahlawat's SP Tomar, and the inimitable #PrakashRaj's Advocate Shetty...
These portions are a throwback to not just the first #Drishyam, but also the ethos of quintessential 80-90s Bollywood masala tropes... There is so much simmering tension, dialoguebaazi banter, and of course, promises and challenges that up the ante without being too loud. But tedium sets in these portions because you want to get to the bottom of this case. Why is the case being reopened now? Will his carefully laid plans finally find their first cracks, and will it be big enough for Tabu and Rajat's characters to reopen the case of the one who seems to always get away.
But except that one pre-interval scene where Vijay reminds SP Tomar that intimidation and threats aren't going to break him or his family, these proceedings are just functional. And then, comes the last half hour.
Vijay finally looks up at the people who have been hounding him and his family. The way tables turn, the way Prakash Raj's advocate Shetty meets his match, the chance for Shriya to show she's an effective actor, and that intense-hardened look giving way to that half smile and a knowing glance. The film truly comes alive in the last act, and it beautifully zeroes down to every nugget of information strewn throughout the film.
Drishyam 3 is a really smart film, which knows the longer the wait to reveal the cards, the better prize they can win. Abhishek Pathak and Co do just that, and the gamble has truly paid off.
What's more important is how #Drishyam3 stays true to way the franchise was. It was about a man who loved cinema and decided to use visual cues to effectively imprint a story in people's minds. In the first part, he told a story about an uninvited guest. In the second, he wrote a story and made everyone believe what they saw wasn't exactly True, and what they know isn't True either. With the third part, Vijay Salgaonkar reiterates the power of Drishyam... The eyes might see everything, but the mind filters out a lot... and between these two, Vijay and Co conjure up a conclusion that might seem over-the-top, unbelievable, and even illogical... but if we have learnt anything from cinema and, of course, Vijay Salgaonkar, it is that...
Visuals lie, but they can be very very convincing.

@airtelindia Your customer service is pathetic. I have had range and connectivity issues for the past 4 months and I am tired of calling your customer care. The issue hasn't been resolved yet. It's very frustrating
#mankatha will remain a classic AK-style heroism movie which is very difficult even for the original makers to recreate. As Rajini said, Baasha must be left as it is, and no sequel or remake must be done; it applies to #mankatha as well.
From the start to the end (including bloopers) AK’s unrestricted acting - truly he was on a wild rage in this movie as Vinayak Mahadev. The finesse with which he owns the character is unparalleled and no other hero can carry this off in this way. There can only be one VINAYAK MAHADEV.
@vp_offl direction. The way you handled the screenplay felt like a roller coaster ride, even after many rewatches of the movie. I felt truly pity for you that after setting a benchmark like this - it's truly difficult to surmount this.
@SureshChandraa Sir, please ask or request our chief to reconsider his decision of acting in a certain controlled way. We as fans take a lot of inspiration from him from his personal life and on how to engage with society and just because he drinks, smokes or utters bad words fans will not get influenced. Despite villainous character in Mankatha, we witnessed lot of lady fans at the theatre today in all fan-mode at the theatre. It's just acting and the world is yet to see the rage of “Actor Ajith” of the 90s till 2011.
