Today, the United States launched a trade war against Canada: their closest partner and ally — their closest friend.
Canadians are reasonable, but we will not back down from a fight.
Not when our country is at stake.
The moment U.S. tariffs came into effect this morning, so did the Canadian response.
Canada will be implementing 25% tariffs against $155 billion of American products.
Starting with $30 billion worth of goods immediately, and the remaining $125 billion in 21 days’ time.
Pierre Poilievre hasn't bothered to get his security clearance. It's not hard. This is the kind of the irresponsibility we can't afford right now. @MarkJCarney
Honoured to be part of today’s historic agreement between the Federal Government and Musqueam First Nations. This revenue-sharing agreement strengthens our partnership, supports economic development, and advances reconciliation, recognizing Musqueam’s right to self-government.

The Aga Khan devoted his life to peace and prosperity for all. He worked across continents and cultures to resolve the world’s greatest humanitarian challenges: poverty, education, and gender inequality.
He was an extraordinary man of vision, faith, and generosity, and I know his legacy will live on through the many lives he touched.
Following the news of his passing, my family and I send our condolences to His Highness’ family, his many friends, and to all Ismaili Muslims in Canada and around the world who are mourning this loss.
With profound sadness, the Jamat is informed that our beloved 49th hereditary Imam, Mawlana Shah Karim Al-Hussaini, passed peacefully to Almighty Allah’s grace on 4 February 2025 in Lisbon, Portugal, surrounded by his family. Visit https://t.co/v5hpIQ7HI1 for more information.
An agreement has been reached to pause tariffs for 30 days, following a conversation between President Trump and Prime Minister Trudeau.

I just had a good call with President Trump. Canada is implementing our $1.3 billion border plan — reinforcing the border with new choppers, technology and personnel, enhanced coordination with our American partners, and increased resources to stop the flow of fentanyl. Nearly 10,000 frontline personnel are and will be working on protecting the border.
In addition, Canada is making new commitments to appoint a Fentanyl Czar, we will list cartels as terrorists, ensure 24/7 eyes on the border, launch a Canada- U.S. Joint Strike Force to combat organized crime, fentanyl and money laundering. I have also signed a new intelligence directive on organized crime and fentanyl and we will be backing it with $200 million.
Proposed tariffs will be paused for at least 30 days while we work together.
Happy Lunar New Year Vancouver! A little snow didn’t stop us from celebrating the Year of the Snake with the 51st Annual Spring Festival Parade in historic Chinatown!
