Burnout is not new, but COVID-19 made things worse. I write about it my latest article: How COVID-19 Magnified Burnout in Healthcare https://t.co/lzePnwCMUR via @LinkedIn
#ProfessionalSelfCare is not a nice thing to have- it’s essential now more than ever, especially for healthcare workers that are dealing with trauma, incredibly high demands, burnout, and overall dealing with the changing landscape of healthcare.
Lessons learned from #COVIDー19:
1. Support small businesses
2. Slow down, REST, and REFLECT
3. Care for “our most vulnerable” and advocate for more inclusion
4. Check in on people we care about and love
5. Realize what matters most in life and check your priorities
6. We are all equal, disease doesn’t care whether you’re rich or poor
7. Health is a GIFT- take care of your minds and bodies
8. Respect Mother Nature, treat our planet better
9. Life is fleeting- make it count
#AgainstClinicianBurnout we are here for it. As a small and young company we aim to make a real and lasting difference in the healthcare industry. Burnout has impacted us and we know it’s going to take more than self-care to fix a flawed system.
People who feel out of control will exert control on others to attempt to restore a sense of control. This trickles down from the top of the hierarchy. When control is used to manage people = loss of agency, autonomy & purposefulness within a workplace culture. #burnout
Privately, doctors feel despair about their appalling working conditions and the deteriorating doctor-patient relationship. But there have been no marches on Washington, no picket lines, no social-media campaigns. Why not? https://t.co/vKc4kpufz6
I found out yesterday that one of my previous residents killed herself so to date for me that makes 1 trainee, 1 resident classmate, 3 medical school classmates, an aunt and an uncle who have all died by suicide. I’m not sure what to do with that other keep saying it’s a problem.
#RecipeForBurnout : productivity standards based on quantity of billable units
#RecipeForWellness : productivity standards based on quality of patient care
One of the biggest culprits of #burnout is an unrealistic workload. In healthcare we are plagued by hitting high productivity numbers that leave workers with an immense amount of pressure and difficult choices to make, including unethical practices and sub-optimal patient care.
