If the Ontario PC government wants to play political games with high speed rail, the federal government has options.

The federal government has exclusive powers for building rail networks. Mark Carney doesn't need the approval of a criminally corrupt mafioso Premier who is on his way out.

Constitutionally, Carney can get high speed rail underway unilaterally until we elect a sane leader.

He doesn't have to wait for Doug to resign in disgrace or to be forced from office.

It will make land expropriation a little more complicated without Ontario's cooperation, but it can be done.

Carney has to stand his ground and move ahead with high speed rail come hell or high water because that's what Canadians want and deserve.

As someone who leads a large grassroots advocacy organization, this language is all too familiar. This is actually what @OntarioPCParty thinks of average Ontarians; how they speak about us.

When communities disagree with this government, they're dismissed instead of being heard. Communities organize, participate, and speak up (as they should in a democracy) only to be dismissed when their voices become inconvenient to @fordnation.

Calling the 87,000 people who participated in the Billy Bishop Airport consultation a “fringe group” because you disagree with them is lazy, but it is also antithetical to democracy. We shouldn’t tolerate this behaviour from an elected official.

The consultation process is only legitimate when it produces the outcome you want?

This is the same rhetorical tactic Donald Trump has repeatedly used: dismissing critics and opponents as illegitimate rather than engaging with the substance of their arguments. Undermine those whose views you don’t like by making things up about ‘who’ they are. Nice. Very nice.

We shouldn’t normalize this kind of politics in Canada.
