Marie Clay, a fine scholar, thoroughly understood the reading process. Thanks, @PDavidPearson, for calling out those who wrongfully blame her for today’s reading scores: https://t.co/QBFfyjeZNa. They don’t realize how wrong they are and how much they could learn from her work.
“Unlocking Us” is back—and starting with a deep dive into values. I can’t think of a more powerful way to double down on ourselves than getting clear on our values. (P.S. Head to our home page for the exercise Barrett and I work through in this episode.) https://t.co/6sC9La0seI

Make teaching matter
Thinking is invisible! Start thinking aloud so students can have clarity in terms of strategies and reflection. Give students the "how and why" of learning.

Terrific blog @ThoughtfulRead who explains the rationale, research, & practices for implementing whole-part-whole teaching (not skills-in-isolation) along with the gradual release of responsibility model. Includes an excellent demo re: teaching inferences.

@MissSDoherty The thing that gets me is why people assume that teachers need to work on their weaknesses. In many cases, becoming outstanding at the things you’re already good at may benefit students more. For me, aim of PD is not to make every teacher into a clone of every other teacher…
2 main things I love about @regieroutman’s Optimal Learning Model:
1. It is student focused
2. There are 2 opportunities for WE do it. Lots of shared practice
