The Spurs had a top-3 draft in my book.
- Jayden Quaintance: high upside if healthy
- Tarris Reed: Imposing force to backup Wemby
- Ja'Kobi Gillespie: Spurs PG written all over him
- Maliq Brown: one of the most versatile defenders in the class
That’s a very Spurs draft.
The Spurs clearly had a specific plan in mind for this year's NBA Draft.
San Antonio struggled heavily whenever Victor Wembanyama was off the floor.
To fix that issue, the front office went out and drafted two defensive big men who can crash the glass and protect the paint.
San Antonio added some serious size and length to their frontcourt rotation:
🔸Jayden Quaintance: Just 18 years old, standing at 6’9” with a ridiculous 7’5” wingspan.
🔸Tarris Reed Jr.: 6’11”, 265 lbs, and rocking a 7’4” wingspan.
With these two rookies coming in, the Spurs' interior defense shouldn't skip a beat when Wemby needs a breather.
An excellent draft for San Antonio 🔥
Spurs got bigger with the NBA draft this week, some early thoughts from their two 1st round picks as they were introduced in San Antonio @SpectrumNews1TX
Maliq Brown on the first thing he learnt about the Spurs organisation when he showed up here:
“First thing I definitely realised when I first got here was just seeing Tim and Manu here earlier this morning, just showing the relationships they have with the past teams and just showing how they always come back and show their faces.”

San Antonio’s 20th overall draft pick Jayden Quaintance increases the ceiling for the Spurs defense and he said he’s excited to shut down the paint with Victor Wembanyama.
