Excited and proud of Autodesk Research for Forma and Autodesk Assistant. Project Quill uses sketching, natural language, and annotations to explore concepts and generate CAD models. Visit the AI Experience at AU2026 to design a building and see it 3D printed! #autodeskresearch
Here's a demo of Lumiere, the research prototype that inspired Clippy (the Office Assistant): https://t.co/tHWwZcBhOB
As background: The shipped version operated quite differently. The Office team decided to execute the Bayesian inference component only when there was a user-initiated search. So there was no autonomous initiative for the Bayesian component.
So where did the infamous Clippy behaviors come from? The activations that folks noted and joked about were based in a separate, legacy system that was hooked up to Clippy--relatively simplistic rule-based tips that were a holdover from the "Tip Wizard" system that had been used in earlier versions of Office, where the rules gently lit up a lightbulb icon on a toolbar. So, there were actually two minds behind Clippy--one Bayesian and only executing when a question was asked, and the other a legacy rule-based system designed originally for a quieter bell icon.

I CAD'ed the cow in minutes-- it's surreal, the amount generative assistance can help the 3D design process ❣️
try Project Salvador! :) https://t.co/kstIUMx4nC
it's origin: 3DALL-E (research paper and internship with Autodesk HCI&Vis): https://t.co/JfPv50AFB8 🏎️
really happy to share that 3DALL-E, a research idea I began at @ADSKResearch as an intern is now in Autodesk Fusion 360 as Project Salvador (thank you to @jozilla, @JustinMatejka for realizing it in the product).
You can generate images to use as blueprints for 3D models!
We're doing another PhD in technical HCI office hours (6th Edition): next Wed Nov 20 11-12pm: https://t.co/SqUDmZQeIF Lots of cool new faculty who will join me for Q&A. Please add your questions to the doc! And, please join if you can! RT for other interested students
I am on the job market, seeking tenure-track or industry research positions starting in 2025. My research combines human-computer interaction and robotics—please visit https://t.co/POmSPUd2H9 for updated publications and CV.
Feel free to reach out if interested. RT appreciated!
Come do an internship in the HCI and Visualisation team at Autodesk Research (@ADSKResearch)!
We're particularly looking for applicants with experience in HCI+AI, creativity support, AR/VR, data vis, novel interaction techniques, and more. Questions? Ask!

hi @Autodesk, i’m so over the moon to join as a research intern this summer!! i’m now working with the amazing @jozilla@justinmatejka & @kendrwannamaker
🌁🇩🇰 catch me in SF, NYC, copenhagen… & happy to hang out & drink coffee

Congratulations to Wendy Mackay for the #CHI2024 Lifetime Research Award — and sharing so many insights in her talk ‘Wendy’s Words of Wisdom’. Here are my #sketchnotes from her wonderful talk
I will present the @acmtochi paper “Using Feedforward to Reveal Interaction Possibilities in Virtual Reality” at 17:00 today in room 313A (https://t.co/L8aFC9yWBL). The paper offer fresh ideas on how design interaction in VR.
Prompting large language models can be tedious when relying solely on words. In our #CHI2024 paper “DirectGPT” (🏅Honorable mention), we introduce and characterize prompting through direct manipulation as a way to facilitate conversations with LLMs. Thread 🧵

Are you also attending @acm_chi and need a map to help you navigate the thousands of papers?
📣 I made a #chi2024 paper explorer for you!
Search by topic, drag to select regions and much more!

When watching tutorial videos, I always wanted to just drag a part of the video, ask a question about it, and get an answer. In our upcoming #CHI2024 paper, we studied users' question asking behavior and designed a pipeline that generates answers to questions with visual anchors.
