@jonobri Great thread. I thought the planner (and their manager) gave excellent answers to inane questions. Impressive that they kept their cool. They also had to contend with passive aggressive nature of the objectors. Imagine how fast this appeal will win at VCAT. Total waste of funds.
@rhettrospective@MichaelCWillson@masonsixtencox Watched from a grand final at a bar in San Fransisco. Safe to say he (and the Pies) have a lot of support over here. Enormous club, and an incredible player with sun even better story.
@HowardFMaclean I recommend reviewing proposals that are lodged with either council or the Minister. Prior to reaching notice stage, these applications are often terrible in every aspect (internal amenity, external impacts etc).
@Mattys123@CollingwoodFC Didnโt think we got a rough end of the umpiring - it felt pretty right to me. Jamie was definitely limited after that ankle (basically no lateral movements), but other than that, what injury news is there?
Awesome win and very proud!
@dnp3075 @KosSamaras Planning application numbers for apartment developments are way down. Theyโre simply not being lodged. Almost non existent except for a few good developers in a handful of locations. So planning restrictions arenโt the main problem - the economy is.
@SCP_Hughes Interesting. Iโve noticed period reproduction or โmock heritageโ is generally accepted in lots of US cities. Not the case in Melbourne. Huge cringe to that style (often neo-Georgian rubbish). Wondering how other places do it without offending every architectural sensibility.
@hasumpstuffedup Pies obvs on the rough end at least six times at critical points in the last quarter (think DeGoey x3, Murphy, Johnson, Tex Walker). Crows obvs on the rough end three times in earlier quarters. Pretty poor effort from those umps all round.
@bloodiedwombat @mivalworld In this case the Greens and Labor Crs voted in support. Socialists and Independents voted to remove a level.
The other Dods St application it looks like all Crs were unanimous in voting against. Different circumstances for each proposal.
@MessengerAndrew@grugstan Merri-bek officers have worked very hard to improve these excellent projects where possible and get them across the line. Councillor and community support fluctuates, but expert planners see the merit and have supported at least half a dozen of these apps. Theyโre not prohibited.
@heritage_why This is a ripper. Merri-bek generally get it right with this stuff, and push developers for improvements far more than other councils IMO.
@heritage_why That particular development is a shocker on so many levels. The wedding cake siting, the commercial-style alucobond cladding that takes us right back to a 2001 medical centre, the basement ramp onto Brunswick St. No thanks.
@heritage_why This pocket of Brunswick has many apartment buildings (the newer builds and current proposals generally of a high quality - some older ones pretty terrible). Iโd say Merri-bek has comparatively fewer heritage overlays than other inner LGAs and does well with density.
@pies_man_greggo@Cal_UpTheTigs @ozphonix @beetgordon_ Unfortunately the reality is that 2022/23 Grundy is a C+ player. This would have been a shocker of a trade if weโre talking about 2018 Grundy, but heโs had good game since the end of 2019. Couldnโt possibly have kept him on the books for that money, or anything close to it.
@heritage_why Iโd say this can sometimes be ok when thereโs another bedroom with an external window; where the circulation area itself has access to daylight and ventilation; and where itโs not every dwelling in the place. It needs to facilitate other design benefits - not simply more yield.
