@ethanhein I also subscribe to “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” Are you running into issues? 10.13 is starting to run into some compatibility issues for me, which is why I’m thinking about going to 10.14

@ethanhein How old is the computer? My general philosophy is to stay at least a couple versions behind. I am currently running Mojave (10.14) on one machine and High Sierra on the other. Will probably update 10.13 soon but will probably only go to 10.14

@ethanhein Another place this comes up a lot is programs that teach these tools outside of a musical context--digital audio for video production, for example...although, to be fair, some of these programs might be better served by starting at the "mid-level" too...

@ethanhein In programs with more courses, I agree that the first course in the sequence shouldn't lead with ADC/DAC for the reasons you say, but for some courses later in the sequence, this is probably a good starting point--though there probably isn't much music-making in these courses...

@ethanhein I agree, mostly...but I think it depends on the class, and the program sequence. I've taught at schools that only have one music tech/audio class and some that have 20+ classes. Scope (and starting point) should be dictated by outcomes for the course and for the program.
