I was ready to tee off on this guy but it turns out he makes a very legitimate argument.

It *is* unnatural for mammals to just not mate. In nature, it’s an empirical sign of distress. And we *have* outsourced a significant percentage of our organic interpersonal fabric to synthetic third parties.

The facts are fairly transparent when you put it that way: we have fundamentally changed how we communicate and interact, and we are observing a clear indicator for distress at the population level. A bit of a dark epiphany moment there.

My son did this in 8th grade. I didn’t get the poster. Sometimes you gotta let your child deal with consequences and learn lessons from failure. Especially when it’s in a controlled situation like this, where the consequences seem dire to them, but aren’t fatal or truly harmful.

Only after having kids did I realize the challenge of staying strong with small kids.

There's a tension between 2 things:

1. Not wanting to take an hour for "you" after you've worked all day and your wife has watched the kids all day and night and needs a break.

2. Not wanting your kids to have a weak dad.

Hard to solve but not impossible. It helps seeing other dads on here getting lifts in when life is chaotic.
