"When we were living as refugees, we went to many places telling the international community that Rwanda was our home and that we wanted to return. Some people would come and raise the matter with the government that was in power here. The response they received was that Rwanda was too small and that there was no place for us to go. Imagine being told there is no place for you in the very country you came from. You cannot tell someone to remain where they are, to spend their entire life as a refugee, and for their children to grow up as refugees as well.

I used to tell people, even at the beginning of our liberation struggle, that whatever treatment we received in the countries where we lived, they were not the people I had a grievance against. After all, it was my own country that had denied me the right to return because it claimed there was no room for me. The people I had a grievance against were those who had the responsibility to guarantee my rights in my own country, but instead denied them. Those were the people we had to confront. Hi Cameron, Rwanda is the wrong example to use to defend the ICC. We have consistently opposed the ICC as a selective, unaccountable institution which has been used to target Africans disproportionately. Post-genocide Rwanda established Gacaca, a home-grown system of justice and reconciliation, which completed nearly two million cases in ten years, at modest cost, while establishing truth, accountability and a basis for communities to live together again.

Gacaca was pivotal to Rwanda’s recovery, progress and stability. A distant, biased court such as the ICC could never have delivered justice and reconciliation on that scale—not in our lifetime.

Lundi 20 juillet 2026, à Tchanzu, dans la province du Nord-Kivu, l’Armée Révolutionnaire Congolaise (ARC) a organisé la cérémonie de clôture de la formation de 9 318 nouveaux commandos, marquant une étape importante dans le renforcement de ses capacités opérationnelles.

Après plusieurs mois d’un entraînement intensif, ces nouvelles recrues ont achevé avec succès leur formation et se déclarent prêtes à accomplir les missions qui leur seront confiées. Leur engagement s’inscrit dans la volonté de renforcer les dispositifs de protection des populations vivant dans les zones libérées et stabilisées. ⤵️
