In the 95 year history of the Academy Awards, no film has ever received more Oscar Nominations than La La Land. With 14 Nominations, only Titanic & All About Eve have as many nominations as Damien Chazelle's second feature film. At its core, La La Land is an emotional film about fighting for your dreams - even if it costs a lifetime of love spent with your soulmate. When the film released in 2016, it was a cultural success on every level imaginable. The movie grossed nearly $500 million worldwide at the box office on a $30 million budget. The soundtrack peaked at #2 on the US Billboard 200. Emma Stone won the Oscar for Best Actress & Chazelle became the youngest winner of the Oscar for Best Director in the history of the Academy Awards. Although La La Land infamously lost the race for Best Picture, the mark this movie left on Cinema is undeniable. On National Cinema Day, there's no better time to recognize a film that embodies the absolute best of Cinema.
