Proud to have my daughter, Sports Captain Maryhill Girls, guiding the Chief of Staff & Head of Public Service Hon Felix Koskei during the tour.
Thank you Hon @koske_felix for gracing the occasion.
At the Thanksgiving and Prize Giving Day of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Maryhill Girls’ High School in Thika, Kiambu County, under the theme, “Distinction with Integrity.”
Maryhill Girls has firmly established itself as one of Kenya’s academic giants, with a strong record of discipline, consistency, integrity and excellence.
In last year’s KCSE, the school recorded a mean score of 9.9008 from 665 candidates. This followed a mean score of 10.051 in 2024 and 9.4423 in 2023, showing sustained academic excellence over the years.
The results indicate that 64 students attained Grade A and 179 students attained Grade A minus, meaning that 243 students attained A minus and above. A total of 98.35 per cent of candidates scored C plus and above, which maintains the school’s record of ensuring university qualification for the majority of its students.
Reviewing the trend from 2016 to 2025, the mean score has risen from 9.4441 in 2016 to 9.9008 in 2025. Grade A performance has increased from 4 candidates in 2016 to 64 candidates in 2025. Indeed, the percentage of students scoring C plus and above has remained above 90 per cent for the last eight years.
The 2025 results confirm that the academic structures and systems in place are producing measurable outcomes. They also affirm that excellence is not an accident, but the product of leadership, discipline, teacher commitment, parental support and a school culture that demands the best from every learner.
As we conduct today’s award ceremony, I am challenging the school to keep its eyes on the ball and sustain these standards by upholding discipline, reinforcing academic culture and safeguarding the standards that delivered them. Academic giants remain great not by resting on past performance, but by continuously improving, protecting integrity, nurturing character and preparing learners to compete at the highest level.
I also performed the ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of a four-storey dormitory, an important investment in learner welfare, safety and the continued growth of the school.
In attendance were Principal Secretary for Basic Education @ololtuaa; Archbishop Philip Anyolo; KeRRA Chairman, who also doubles as School Board of Management Chair, Eng. Anthony Mwaura; the school administration led by Chief Principal Mrs Grace W. Macharia; the education fraternity; teachers; parents and students.
The health and safety of Kenyans remain our top priority. As part of our preparedness measures against the Ebola threat, the Government is taking all necessary steps to prevent, detect, and manage any potential cases, while strengthening our public health response capabilities with the support of our international partners, including the Government of the United States.
Kenya’s partnership with the United States spans decades and has played an important role in supporting our response to major public health challenges, including HIV/Aids, COVID-19, and Ebola.
The quarantine facility being established at Laikipia Air Base with the support of the United States is neither unique nor exceptional, but part of a broader national preparedness system. It is one of 23 such centres under Kenya’s disease preparedness framework, alongside facilities at Kenyatta National Hospital (Nairobi), the National Police Service Hospital (Nairobi), Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (Eldoret), Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital (Nairobi/Kiambu), and Alupe Hospital (Busia), among others.
These measures are intended solely to safeguard public health and strengthen our capacity to respond effectively to health emergencies. Similar partnerships proved invaluable during the COVID-19 pandemic, including the establishment of a specialised facility at Nairobi Hospital, and continue to enhance our preparedness today.
At a media roundtable at Wajir State Lodge, urged leaders and stakeholders not to politicise public health interventions and reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to protecting the health and well-being of all Kenyans.
I also discussed progress on key projects and the broader development agenda for Northern Kenya, including ongoing efforts to unlock the region’s immense potential, expand economic opportunities, and accelerate inclusive growth.
President William Ruto: We must embrace electric vehicles. Government has ordered 3,000 electric vehicles, through the Ministry of Interior, for use by security officials. The first 100,000 electric vehicles to be imported into Kenya will be duty free
#FuelPrices
We have recalculated the maximum petroleum prices to be in force from 19th May 2026 to 14th June 2026 following a petition by public transport sector operators on the need to minimize the risk of motor fuel adulteration that may arise due to Diesel & Kerosene price difference.
I condemn the heinous act of violence against Rachel Wandeto who was set ablaze in Kasarani. Such brutality is not only inhumane but undermines the constitutional promise of dignity and freedom from violence under Articles 27 and 29.
This incident is a reminder that despite advocacy and policy interventions, women in Kenya face grave threats to their safety and lives. We must confront the uncomfortable truth that impunity and societal normalization of violence continue to enable these crimes.
I call upon the National Police Service to investigate and to ensure that all perpetrators are apprehended and prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Accountability is non-negotiable.
All state agencies must coordinate to provide medical and legal support to the survivor while strengthening and providing protective mechanisms for all women at risk.
We must act decisively because silence and inaction only perpetuate the cycle of violence.

Banks dominate the most valuable brands in Kenya. There's a strong correlation here with the high cost of borrowing, borrowers bearing the pain, banks riding on this pain.
