Glimpse of 2012 Nirbhaya Protest:

No govt in the past 79 years of Independence has allowed it, and no govt in our lifetime will ever allow an uncontrolled mob of tens of thousands of people to march on Parliament.

Police action will always be taken. The Supreme Court has given guidelines about this.

So when a movement leader asks you to participate in a protest at Parliament, know that they want you at Parliament so you are beaten by the police instead of them. And their agenda will be further intensifies because of it.

Even if BJP asks you in future to participate in March to Parliament, know that the reason is same.

Everything that happened in Delhi yesterday could have been avoided.

Police were beating protesters, protesters were beating police, the police used lathi-charges and tear gas, protesters threw stones, and both sides engaged in blame games.

Section 163 of the BNSS (CrPC 144) was in force in New Delhi, which was conveyed a day prior. Yet, none of the CJP leaders warned the protesters about it.

Did the CJP really think the police would let thousands of protesters march to Parliament while it was in session, especially during a CrPC 144 imposition?

During the Nirbhaya protests in December 2012, the Delhi Police under the UPA-II govt stopped tens of thousands of protesters from marching towards Parliament in a much harsher way.

The CJP knew what would happen, yet they let innocent protesters get beaten on the roads while the high command rode on a tall truck, unreachable by any lathi.

Did you really think that if you asked everyone to act peacefully, they would do so under such pressure? Or were you counting on the protest turning violent?

Even if CJP had just warned everyone about CrPC 144, at least people would not have come with their children.

Your protest is protected under Article 19(1)(b) as long as you are sitting at Jantar Mantar. The moment you took over the road and marched towards Parliament with such a crowd, it was no longer a peaceful protest.

Abhijeet Dipke, his team, and all those who instigated the youth to march during CrPC 144 should be legally dealt with as criminals.

Lastly, shame on the BJP government, which has not yet been able to handle the situation.

Good analysis via @timesofindia. In just 5 years, unconditional cash transfers(UCTs) to women have spread from 1 state to 15, now costs ₹2.46 lakh crore and reaching 13 crore women.

Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat are two among the top 5 state economies that is holding out against rolling out UCTs which might explain their high capex and ability to fund industrial incentives.

What began as a welfare novelty is now reshaping household power and state budgets.

Why it’s politically powerful:
• Direct, visible money in women’s hands
• Boosts bargaining power and consumption
• Creates a loyal, cross-caste voting bloc

Why it’s fiscally risky:
• In some states, UCTs are 2–3% of GSDP
• They now dominate welfare budgets, squeezing health, nutrition & capex
• Easy to launch, hard to roll back especially in the run-up to the elections

Cash transfers clearing working electorally. But without growth, targeting, or exits, they risk becoming permanent entitlements on fragile balance sheets.

Gujarat’s SIR numbers blow up the conspiracy theory.

Voter count down 73.7 lakh representing a 14.5% drop, from 5.08 cr to 4.34 cr. Surat alone saw a 25.7% fall. Ahmedabad over 23%.

The SIR pattern is identical to TN and other states:
▪️ Urban centres see the highest deletions
▪️ Tribal & rural belts see the least
▪️ Migration, duplication, deaths drive the churn

Gujarat is India’s strongest BJP bastion, yet SIR outcomes look the same.
