First of all thank you to anyone who messaged me about beta reading my book. Since this was my first beta reader request I wasn’t sure what to expect. I now at least know what the rough costs are so I can better assess budgeting for this process.

@lavelle_Hub That’s the nice thing about not knowing what to expect… it takes the surprise out of it. Honestly I had no idea what typical rates for beta reading was and now I do so that helps.

That said my car wouldn’t start after work even with a boost so until I figure out what that’s going to cost my beta reader plans are on hold.

Working through a full pass edit checking flow, plots holes etc… and what do I decide to do?

Change an entire plot line affecting numerous chapters but hopefully adding yet another late book reveal that will keep readers on their toes.

@CB1087725 @elizarose159630 Yes it is quite funny. But I have ghostwritten and sold over 30 children stories and I have finished the draft of my 90000 word book 1 of my Duology. So while I may not be published yet I will be. If it makes you feel better I could change it to say writer.

@elizarose159630 Not yet working on getting book 1 off to some beta readers. Taking the hard road too starting with a Duology which I am told makes querying next to impossible so I will probably end up self publishing and holding my breath lol.

I’ve been trying to get my beta reader copy ready, but I keep tweaking and rewriting scenes.

Every pass makes something better… and then I find three more things to fix.

Have any other writers struggled with this stage?

Why can’t I stop myself from over analyzing my beta draft? I’ve had a handful of people offer to beta for me, but I still can’t stop tweaking and fixing the copy.

Maybe I am stuck or possibly even scared of people hating it and making all the time and effort seem like a waste.
