Like it or not early sport specialization is here to stay. It’s challenging, but this is a great time for coaches , performance guys, etc. to rephase , regroup, and give the best possible foundational development for their athletes to combat its deleterious effects.
Dear S&C coaches and fitness trainers-
Just wondering what exercise/strength principles we can go out of our way to overly complicate for social media today.
You may carry on .
#harderisntbetter#circustricks
Find me a person or athlete that constantly trains to be sore after every workout and I’ll show you someone spiraling towards burnout or that has an unreasonable / dysfunctional understanding of training. #stimulatedontannihilate#therightdose#sustainabletraining
Food should not be a reward and exercise is not punishment: you should never have to justify to you or anyone why you ate a cookie or pastry. That also means not doing copious amounts of exercise to absolve your guilt of said ‘treat’. #fortisfitnessandathletics
Treat your trainer/coach like your doctor. ASK QUESTIONS! Don’t be afraid to know what you’re getting into: ask about credentials , experience and most of all their methods. Adept coaches will have no qualms answering you and educating you on these topics. This is YOUR health!
Your fitness certification only carries so much skin in the game. Your clients don’t operate in a vacuum . Your ability to pinpoint their needs effectively on any given day and serve them accordingly carries far more relevance. #peoplefirstfitnesssecond#honeyourcraft
Your ‘potential’ duties as a personal trainer/ performance coach besides getting your clients a ‘bangin six pack’ :
- Sounding board
- Magician
- Empath
- Physician
- Relationship expert
- Physical Therapist
- Clairvoyant
- Psychologist
Ask yourself: is this still for you ?
Strength is key. Society has programmed us to obsess on eviscerating calories. It’s a race to the bottom because it’s the ONLY thing we fixate on. In the process we become smaller , weaker , less able because we neglected the other important facets of true health.
Personal trainers and strength coaches- like it or not you are in a #SERVICEINDUSTRY! It doesn’t matter if you can spout every step of the Krebs cycle or post activation potentiation to your clients . How you make them feel , communicate, and show empathy speaks volumes!
Those of you starting your diets and fitness goals around the holidays , I salute you- you’re a special type of masochist😜.
Wishing a happy Thanksgiving to you and your loved ones! 🍁🦃🍁
Ever work for a manager or supervisor who relished telling you what to do but never seemed to be in the trenches setting the example ? Remember how you felt and use that to make yourself a better coach and a better communicator 📣. #changetheindustry#nuancedprofessional
High box jumps ( 30 in +) make the social media world go ‘round , I get it . But don’t discount the benefits of small box jumps done right :
•Better sport carryover (landing mechanics).
•Very similar GFD ( ground force development ) as a high box jumps.
•Usually safer.
Technology is getting good - so good that it will soon replace personal trainers and coaches who refuse to adapt. Be irreplaceable - learn the hell out of your craft. Work at the art of communicating. And of course, show empathy!
We love pushing strength down athletes’ throats - but keep in mind that focusing on getting their deadlift from 450 to 550 doesn’t necessarily translate into a better player. ➡️ Skill, movement velocity , and quick muscle contractions need to be addressed too!
Coaches are always taking credit for an athletes success but rarely ever take credit for the lows. We are conduits for success and not the major contributor for it.
When you advertise that you do sports specific training , what you’re really saying is that you’re going to have your clients do endless ladder drills while posting their piss poor executed Olympic lifts ad nauseum.
Thanks to the thirsty gym creepers , I can’t even ask a woman how many more sets she has left without her assuming I’m trying to get into her overpriced lulu lemmons. #keepingmyeyestomyself#nottherackiwanted
