Six leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints shared personal reflections about the Christ-focused life and teachings of the late Prophet and President Russell M. Nelson on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, during a tribute broadcast from the Tabernacle on Temple Square.

President Dallin H. Oaks of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles was joined by Primary General President Susan H. Porter, Presiding Bishop Gérald Caussé, Elder Carl B. Cook of the Seventy and Elders Jeffrey R. Holland and Henry B. Eyring of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

Their remarks highlighted President Nelson’s tender personal ministry to people everywhere, his invitation to be peacemakers, and his gift for receiving revelation from God.

“President Nelson showed us the meaning of love in a world with billions of people in many nations,” President Oaks said.

Elder @BednarDavidA of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles ministered to victims Tuesday, Sept. 30, of a deadly mass shooting that took place at a meetinghouse of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Sunday, Sept. 28, in Grand Blanc, Michigan.

Four people were killed and eight more injured after a shooter rammed a pickup truck into the side of the church and started shooting people inside. The shooter also poured out gasoline and set the building on fire, according to police and eyewitnesses.

Along with his wife, Sister Susan Bednar, and Elder Allen D. Haynie, a General Authority Seventy and United States Northeast Area president, and his wife, Sister Deborah Haynie, Elder Bednar visited members recovering in local hospitals from injuries sustained during the attack.

“It has been very tender to hear the episodes of what took place, how they responded and the might and many miracles that occurred during this episode,” Elder Bednar said.

Many are still recovering in local hospitals after the shooting at the Grand Blanc Ward in Michigan. Elder @BednarDavidA of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles ministered to them and described their resolve as “remarkable.” He and his wife, Sister Susan Bednar, also visited the destroyed chapel where the attack took place. Four people were killed and eight more injured on Sunday.

A tribute was held today for President Russell M. Nelson with talks by Church leaders and music by @TheTabChoir. The event is available on the Church’s website and YouTube for all to watch. His funeral is next Tuesday.

Friends of the Church have been sending their condolences following the Prophet’s death. Leaders of the NAACP, political leaders and other faith leaders have posted messages online.
