This is wrong on so many levels. I cannot believe the hive mind perpetuated a narrative that GARRETT CLARK, of all people, and Good Good as a whole were delivering a message that supported or condoned domestic violence. I feel like I’m living in a haze watching this unfold.

The Good Good Golf video missed the mark. I didn’t necessarily like it, but watching the entire video I could see the creative brief. But, I wouldn’t have posted it. And saying that does not require believing that “Good Good supports or is enabling domestic violence.” Like, are you kidding me?

Those are two VERY different statements.

A piece of creative can be bad. A joke can absolutely fail. Someone can make a poor decision. You acknowledge it, take accountability, apologize, learn from it and get better.

But we’ve somehow reached a place where one bad piece of content can turn into sponsors leaving, retailers pulling products and people questioning whether an entire organization should continue to have a place in the sport?

Are we actually being serious?

I’ve spent a lot of time with the people behind Good Good. They’re great humans who have created tremendous value for millions of fans and helped introduce an entirely new generation to golf.

That body of work should, and HAS to matter too. And should matter even MORE.

And there’s another uncomfortable reality about the internet… outrage is content. I’ll say it again, OUTRAGE IS CONTENT.

The people criticizing something are also rewarded with impressions, followers and engagement for criticizing it. That doesn’t make every criticism disingenuous. It does mean the loudest comments on the internet shouldn’t automatically become judge, jury and executioner for brands and people.

We need to get better at distinguishing between:

“That was a bad decision”… and… “Those are bad people.”

Accountability matters, but context and the greater body of work matters too.

I’m probably going to start being a little more willing to say that out loud moving forwards because this Good Good situation is absurd.
