In our current understanding of government yes, it is, because all our governments are trash and selfish.

Remove the incentives for government officials to gain money or anything of status, and the pool of people trying to become a politician would dwindle down to just those who genuinely want to serve people.

(As a side note, I believe this concept would happen in most if not all professions, if financial incentives were dropped. People would be doctors for the sake of helping and the challenge of learning medicine, not because they want 6 figures.)

Real wages are not going up and even if they were they would be nothing compared to the exponential growth of CEOs, companies and government officials, who all use capitalism against us

Doesn’t matter if a “real economist” wants lower taxes. In practice we are taxed into oblivion. Average total taxes is nearly 40% for all Americans lol you’re high

I’m not referring to overtime, which is some bs anyway, but rather the way they buy all of our attention and time by having to do something that buys into the system. I need to be consuming, buying, engaging the economy, selling, working, anything.

No, suppression happens through money and the government. A park I used to go to, now an apartment. A field, now a data center. The sky, now billboards. Space, now satellites. Everything is being bought up with absolutely no regard for the ramifications, because “growth”, even at the expense of people.

Capitalism has never had anything to do with morals. Someone individually can choose to act with morality within capitalism, but capitalism does not need, and I would add does not want, morality. Morality can “stunt” growth.

Government should have the HIGHEST and STRICTEST laws in the world. If an official lies, they’re banned from public office. If an official is insider trading, they’re banned from all public office. If an official is acting in selfish interest they’re banned from all public office. The role of a government official is one of servitude, and if they just want a free ride to the Olympics they should be banned.

The alternative I’m imagining does not exist. All current forms (socialism, capitalism, communism, Marxism, etc) are fundamentally flawed and impossible to implement

Capitalism is not “the right to sell what you want for how much you want”. It is an economic system/semi-ideological system where “capital” can be owned by private parties.

The problem is that doesn’t stop with “capital”. It should, in theory, but in application it obviously does not.

Capital has become political will, it’s become the highest bidder, not the best ideas, it’s become the best friend with insider deals, not hard work and effort, it’s become higher tax rates so groups of people can’t buy homes, it’s become viral and fad videos that influence what people “want” and consume. Our time has become capital, and they want all of it.

There should be a limit on capital, but instead we’ve all become capital whether we want to or not, thanks to this system.

Those injustices only exist because of capitalism. In other countries, the oppresssion exists in other forms, such as the brutal policing in Russia or concentration camps in China.

Imo a truly selfless government would only serve its people, not control them through 60 year mortgages, propaganda, brutality and thinly veiled threats to stop funding certain programs that people need, for example food, healthcare and housing. Our government does not own the food we make, they do not own the houses we build, they do not own the money we make from our work, but for some reason we let them think they do

You, like I, wish it wasn’t capitalism, but it is. If “private property” and “capital” are tangible items that can be owned with a piece of paper, then they will take it.

Missed a payment on your car? Repossessed. Our government bankrupts our country with a $40T debt? Everyone keeps their job and gets bonuses.

Got in a bad accident/cancer/whatever and cant pay your bills? Better come up with the money, or the government will take whatever they want to pay for whatever arbitrary number they came up with.

Need to pay taxes on your taxes on your expenses you spent with your taxed money but don’t have enough? Jail.

We have the facade of rights, but they’re just a paycheck or (bought) policy away from being taken. Our rights are not defended or protected, they are threatened every day. They threaten us with taking away the rights they want us to think they gave us, when in reality they are and always have been ours.

It does. It is a failure. No guardrails or policies or philosophical discussion will stop the capitalist system from buying up everything it can. That’s what it does. It HAS to eat itself to survive.

We’re at the point where a boxer just got knocked the fuck out and shakily gets back to his feet, everyone screams “he got back up!! What a champ! See!! He’s good!!” right as the other boxer is winding up to turn off the lights. Capitalism surviving does not mean it’s successful. Pulling people out of poverty only to enslave them to a system that has infinitely more control, influence and power over their personal lives is not a success.

Consume consume consume. Buy buy buy. Sell sell sell. Work work work. Cut cut cut. Make make make. That’s why the US has caused so many species to go extinct, forests to be razed, cities blown up, governments dismantled. Hell we just kidnapped another countries sovereign for oil. We violated our own international agreements and their countries rights so WE could get oil.

I agree that we need to change our nations philosophy, but if we stick to capitalism nothing will change. We will eventually be at this point again, or even worse off.
