Part 2 of my deep-dive into American soccer and where we might look for answers:
“Why the USMNT Will Never Be Argentina (But Could Maybe Be France)”—on France, MLS, the USWNT and what America would actually have to build:

Several top USMNT prospects shined in the Leagues Cup this week while a few others contributed to the early season in Europe.

Five wins matter a lot more when you’re sitting on the edge of contention.
A 56-60 team sells.
A 61-55 team is probably holding onto its major leaguers, possibly adding at the deadline, and trying to make a run in October.
That could have changed everything.

Did the Orioles squander the 2026 season by failing to sign an ace.
Where would they be in the standings had they signed Dylan Cease or Ranger Suarez? Michael King or Framber Valdez?
🧵
The estimated impact:
Dylan Cease: +5.0 wins, ~61-55
Ranger Suárez: +3.4, ~59-57
Framber Valdez: +2.3, ~58-58
Michael King: +2.2, ~58-58
Cease is the huge miss, but even the less impressive outcomes would have helped.
The Orioles enters the trade deadline a few games below .500 and decided to sell.
If they had signed one of the top starters last winter would that have changed their fate?
I modeled how many wins each of the top four targets would have added to their current season total:

One of the big questions for the Ravens in preseason is what the offense will look like under first-time coordinator Declan Doyle.
What will change? What will be preserved?

You should figure out why your app shows boarding starting at 11:10am, yet when we arrive at that time we’re told the gates are closing. Seems very nefarious on your part for a flight you were begging people to switch out of because it was overbooked.
Great job @AmericanAir Overbooks their flight then when not enough passengers accept their offer to change flights they just push the takeoff time up without telling anyone, hoping their paying customers will miss their flights. Shameless.
@AmericanAir Why does your app show that a flight is departing at 12:00 with boarding BEGINNING at 11:10am, then when we get to the gate at 11:05, they say it is last call and they are closing the gates?
It’s nice that the Banner is still puffing up the owner. But if he allows Mike Elias to continue in his job beyond this season, either:
1) He is incompetent when it comes to owning a baseball team
2) (more likely) He is just a shrewd bottom-line-driven businessman hiding behind his grandpa looks and nice-guy persona. Which may be even worse than the last owners.
The Union trio impressed again this week, leading the updated Scouting Board. There was also interesting transfer news for Gozo and some early European action for several USMNT prospects across the pond.
