I looked a little into the Gzip OOD results and there seems to be another big problem: train-test overlap.

E.g. DengueFilipino has the same train and test set. KirundiNews has 90% overlap...

Still nice to see people revisit old ideas and the use of information theory for ML :)

@Airbnb @bchesky I would love to be able to systematically go through listing pins on the map but now it’s a game of trying out different map centering points and zoom levels. 😵‍💫🫠 Would it not be possible to cluster pins and display the number available in a given location?

Found a lead: when I slowed down my speech, Whisper tends to conclude it’s English rather than Malay! Guess we Singaporeans really speak too fast.

When I transcribe my English speech with @OpenAI’s Whisper API, it’s detecting the language to be Malay with > 70% probability and translating all my English to Malay and spitting that out as the transcription. Singaporean English proving to be a challenge for AI!
