Translation: Edgar joined and managed to improve hitting production with this squad. However, he can’t do the job if we are continually trying to inject our opinions about how to approach hitting in spite of our incredibly poor track record. So, we will see…
Jerry Dipoto just met with the media, had a lot to say. They would love to keep Edgar as hitting coach, if not get creative in how he can continue to help the team, expand his previous role, keep him with the club as much as possible.
@MarinerMuse True. He is also being paid to be capable for much longer stretches than his history shows.
Streaky just isn’t going to be good enough for this team.
So, hang on to Garver because a replacement will cost an excessive amount? And won’t have the “ceiling” of Garver?
Pretty much the same situation with Abreu in Houston. The roster spot and opportunity were important enough for the Astros to make the call.
@BaseballGeek72 You can’t release Garver. Then you’re going to pay another backup catcher to have a lot lower ceiling for offense. Doesn’t make any sense. Haniger is the only real vet and leader. But his production has been awful. They’ll trade him this offseason with a prospect
Want the #Mariners to clean house? I’m with you, but this can’t be a half-ass effort. It has to be worth it.
Clean house = change the culture. That means new voices just about everywhere. It’s not just the owners + Jerry and his band of idiots. 1/
7/ Most of the regulars might be bench players on other teams. #Mariners need to cut bait with most of the team. Results matter. Have to change the culture to one that expects to compete and win.
The young guys need to see that if you don’t perform, you might be sent packing.
Devs what title from other professions should we steal next? We already destroyed “engineer” and “architect”
…I’m thinking I like “software doctor” or ooooh maybe “software surgeon”
@DoseofReality55 I have a bit different take: Servais wasn’t THE problem, but he definitely wasn’t part of any solution. He had 9 years.
Guys can’t hit because that’s who this FO picked to run out there. The players are who they are.
It’s the org. Owners, Dipoto, coaching, and players.
@WhidbeyTom428@Mariners#mariners have really low odds. They need to make up 6 games over the Astros and have 25 games left to do it.
If the Astros play .500 ball the rest of the way (13-12), they would end up with 88 wins.
The Ms would need to go 19-6 — a winning percentage of .760.
@RoFlo Starting the obvious: it’s math. Astros are scoring runs to the tune of a 49-29 record in the last 3 months (.628)
#mariners are 37-40 (.481) in the same timeframe.
These #mariners losses don’t bother me so much anymore. This team is not built to be competitive. Only reason anyone acts like things matter is because the division sucks.
Will miss the playoffs in 2024 just like every season not called 2022.
@gbellseattle I have a theory that places like wazzu are going to be where college football actually survives ( unlike the nfl minor leagues we are witnessing right now ).
Keep going, playas!
