This week was not a great week in our fight to beat Obamacare Medicaid Expansion.
The good news: 16 conservative Republicans voted NO.
But ALL 16 Democrats joined Lt Governor Hosemann’s leadership team and voted YES, and they were able to advance the bill.
There is still a long way to go in this battle, and while I may be disappointed, I want to focus today on the courage of the 16 conservatives in the Senate.
They fought and won a decisive victory to significantly limit the welfare expansion in the bill that ultimately passed. They stood up to all of the lobbyists. They stood up to the big money folks in Big Business. They stood up to the Democrat activists masquerading as “journalists.” And they even had the courage - when threatened with everything you can imagine - to stand up to their own “leadership.”
That’s not easy.
But that earns my respect.
And my admiration.
And my support and thanks.
Those 16 patriots are:
Senator Jason Barrett
Senator Andy Berry
Senator Jenifer Branning
Senator Lydia Chassaniol
Senator Kathy Chism
Senator Joey Fillingane
Senator Angela Hill
Senator Chris Johnson
Senator Tyler McCaughn
Senator Michael McLendon
Senator Rita Parks
Senator Brian Rhodes
Senator Mike Seymour
Senator Daniel Sparks
Senator Ben Suber
Senator Neil Whaley
On behalf of the 418 thousand Mississippians who voted for me, I say THANK YOU.
And if you know them or see them, you should too.
They deserve it!
Tom Wilkinson, the Oscar-nominated British actor known for his roles in “The Full Monty,” “Michael Clayton” and “Batman Begins” and whose work spanned film, TV, and stage, died Saturday. He was 75. https://t.co/irLSyo6Wgw
The only reason the Governor of Mississippi would weigh in on a cultural argument about a music video shot at the site of an infamous lynching & race riot is because he thinks it is good politics. For the love of God, white Mississippians, can we please demonstrate it is not?!?
