@OrsoTrent Whoever wrote that is clearly not a nurse. Ventilated patients are sedated to keep them comfortable. When it comes time to extubate, we wean the sedation so they can wake up! They have to be alert and following commands (wiggling toes and squeezing hands) before we pull the tube!
