So many have been raised on the false dichotomy that you must pick between science and religion, when really they answer two entirely separate questions. The former is âwhy are we hereâ in a physical sense, and the latter is âwhy are we hereâ as in, our purpose, or meaning.
Friends, in my evangelical work online, I often encounter people who are skeptical of religionâdismissing it as a tired, irrational superstition.
When I meet someone like this, I usually begin by asking them, âDo you believe in science?â
The typical response: âWell, of course.â
To which I say: The condition for the possibility of any science is the deep conviction that the world, in every nook and cranny, is intelligible. It has something like a rational pattern to it that can be understood. Otherwise, science wouldnât get off the ground.
Albert Einstein famously put it this way: âThe most incomprehensible thing about the universe is that itâs comprehensible.â
So hereâs my question to critics of religion: How do you explain that? Where does this universal intelligibilityâdescribable with the most complex mathematicsâcome from?
The answer I typically receive is âI donât know; thatâs just the way it is.â
I have a better answer: The world is marked by mathematically precise and complex intelligibility because it was made by a mathematician.
If you are single and struggle with lust you need to pray to God to make you into the man / woman he wants you to be, and start becoming that person way way way before you even consider getting married.

The most popular religion in the world, by far, is the belief that:
1. A god exists
2. He wants people to be good and nice
3. The central goal of life is to be happy
4. God isnât particularly involved in your life except when needed to solve a problem
5. Good people go to heaven
This is Moralistic Therapeutic Deism and is the religion of 90% of the world.
The âtherapeutic deityâ has different names in different cultures: Jesus, Allah, Krishna; with slightly different traits (IE, in the western version of this religion, 5 is replaced with âgood people who believe Jesus exists go to heavenâ)
Orthodox belief in the True Christian God is a thing of the past. Religion isnât important to people anymore. All theories about why religion is declining are chiefly because of this.

Topology optimization? Of course you thought it would solve your problems. You fed the solver a single static load case and watched it chug on von Mises stress like it was Gatorade, all while completely ignoring principal stresses and actual mechanical properties.
Let me guess -- you just finished the SolidWorks Simulation or Autodesk Fusion generative-design marketing deck (or maybe the Ansys webinar), and now you think organic lattices are the future because the pretty red-to-blue plot said so.
Youâre going to believe that right up until the first prototype hits the machine shop and they call you, asking why the flanges are thinner than the paper your college degree -- the one you Chegged your way through -- was printed on. Then the part buckles laterally under a moment that wasnât even in your load case, crumples, and suddenly itâs your problem.
While youâre dealing with that, youâll finally notice that the âoptimizedâ geometry has internal corners that act as stress risers, which the solver didnât catch because the mesh was too coarse. Then youâll finally open Hibbelerâs Mechanics of Materials for real this time -- not just to regurgitate the von Mises formula -- and youâll read the sections on lateral-torsional buckling and realize that the critical moment drops with the cube of the flange thickness and the square of the unbraced length. Your solver maximized both penalties while smiling at you. It never checked geometric nonlinearity. It never asked whether the material was ductile enough for the equivalent-stress assumption to hold. It never cared.
After that, youâll crack open Timoshenko or the AISC specs, stare at the LTB equations, and it will hit you: topology optimization isnât failing because the algorithms are bad. Itâs failing because you treated a single-parameter stiffness game like it was engineering.
