@Zack_Helm Those changes in suicide numbers need examined closely, but to say that Covid policies caused them is short sited, IMO. Young ppl mental illness was already an epidemic pre Covid. I see it all the time in 6 yrs of practice. Hope all this sheds more light on it.
@Zack_Helm And don’t misunderstand my point. Factual data is extremely important in times like this. Looking at the data from multiple angles is even more important to help understand what’s really happening. A singular view leaves us vulnerable to making errors with policies
@Zack_Helm 100% need to question Covid policies as policies should change as the situation changes, which is very different now from the beginning. This lack of awareness in policy makers without reasonable middle ground is literally killing us.
@Zack_Helm Looking at the data, the big jump in suicide rates from 2020 to 2021 is because 2020 rates were actually very low. 2021 rates are quite on par with pre-2020 suicide rates.
@Zack_Helm Hard to disagree. I will say this, children and teen mental illness has already been very prevalent prior to the pandemic. I deal with it a lot in my office. But I don’t like people using Covid as a new excuse for suicide and worsening mental illness.
Another example of why the general public has difficulty trusting the FDA. Bureaucratic garbage (and money) slows down the American health care system = bad public health outcomes
NEW: An MIT scientist created an inexpensive, at-home test in *March 2020* --just weeks into the pandemic.
She had a factory read to churn them out
The tests were solid. We checked
But she couldn't get past FDA's constipated review
