@elsathora The best fried chicken (and fried pickles as a side) I've ever run across is at Rip's Tavern in Ladd, Illinois which is about an hour and a half west of Chicago, just off Interstate 80. If you ever get out that way, it's worth a stop off the main road.
@deaflibertarian My mom was born in Texas and lived there until she was 8. Since she left so young, she lost her accent, but she occasionally had occasion to go back for business trips.
They would only last 2-3 days, but when she'd come back home her accent would be back for the next 3-4 weeks.
A brand new evolution in sci-fi aesthetics. 🌌⚔️ Inspired by the universe of Stellar Blade, I’ve put my own creative spin on this striking new character. The mysterious elegance of the black & gold tech-cape, or the flawless 360° detail of the sleek white skin-suit.

@potetm@SandyofCthulhu "I Regressed 300 Years to Open a Quiet Inn" by "gbolgurov" on the Royal Road site.
Despite the anachronisms, it's still been fun so far.
@SandyofCthulhu I've read a bit farther and now we've got merchants doing arbitrage, and class action lawsuits being filed with an independent judiciary that somehow has enough power to hold sway over nobles.
Just this morning I read a chapter set in a medieval-ish fantasy "small town" of a couple hundred people wherein the main character purchased a couple of "cones of roasted chestnuts."
Nevermind that paper would be non-existent, as would specialized street-vendor food carts for luxuries like toasted nuts.
@LeahRay44 I would suggest Cafe Rio instead of Chipotle, but that might be due to my workplace having been literally next door to Cafe Rio's corporate HQ for 9 years... ;-)
They aren't as ubiquitous as Chipotle, but there are several options in the LA area -
My daughter loves kpop and bombards me with enough info that it sometimes sticks, so.... What I know here is that they are half of the singing group called "aespa."
The dark-haired one has a stage name of "Karina." She's currently doing Google Play commercials under her real name of "Ji-Min" also.
The other is "Winter" and I have no idea what her real name is.

I don't currently hold one, but I have in the past. I've only been to the UK and to Canada, but I've also been to 41 states and have lived in 4 of them, so I still have quite a few miles/km's under my belt.
I have a sister who travels internationally often for work and has lived overseas in Ukraine and Kazahstan for her job as well. Another sister has spent the majority of her time living and working overseas for the past 2 decades
- UAE, Oman, Saudi Arabia, China, and India.
My 3 eldest children have passports and have visited Japan, Italy, France, UK, etc for occasional vacation trips. My son's in the military and has been to the Middle East a couple of times (primarily in Kuwait), plus the various stopover countries on the way there.
The sister who has lived overseas for decades is the only one of us who I'd consider to be "outside the norm" for Americans. We may not keep a passport at all times, but if we want to go somewhere they aren't hard to get, there's just so much available in the US that a lot of folks just don't bother, but a lot also do bother, so people don't think it's a big deal to hear about international vacations either.
@elsathora@FiliaChristi22 This is "my map." My parent say they took me to Connecticut as a small child, but it was before I can remember, so I don't count it.
My dad had a goal of "50 states by (age) 50" and he'd drag the family along on various road trips and vacations when I was a kid. As a result I've been to 41 states, though a couple of them were simply "drive to the state border, take a picture by the welcome sign, turn around and drive back."
Dad achieved his goal at age 47, though, and was visibly moved when he actually got the the last one -Vermont, in 1992. He also toured Europe a couple of times, and this was long enough ago that he even drove to West Berlin through East Germany. . . .
