A3 Academy is proud to announce the return of Chris Cates as Senior Director, Player and Program Development.
Cates, who helped launch A3 in its inaugural year, returns after five years of Division I coaching experience at USF and UCF. Cates has also coached previously at Florida State and University of Tampa.
A former professional shortstop and Double-A All-Star in the Minnesota Twins organization, Cates brings unmatched experience, leadership, and a national network to A3. As a four-year starter at the University of Louisville, he helped lead the Cardinals to their first-ever College World Series appearance in 2007. He was later selected in the 38th round of the MLB Draft and played five seasons in the Twins system.
At A3, Chris will work with all players across all levels, from NAA and ABA high school teams to middle school and youth programs. His mission is clear: elevate every facet of the program, including player development, college placement, culture, and accountability. His extensive background in recruiting, skill development, and program management will strengthen A3’s national footprint.
“I’m excited to return back to A3 and help shape the next generation of players. We’re raising the bar in every way—developmentally, culturally, and competitively,” said Cates.
Please join us in welcoming Coach Cates, along with his wife Meagan and son Cohen, back to A3 Academy.
