Last night, I went to my first Kansas basketball game as a spectator. It was surreal because the last time I was inside Allen Fieldhouse, I was playing for Iowa State (and beating Kansas).
I grew up a die-hard Jayhawks fan. Both my parents went to KU and I watched every game as a kid. I've spoken (and written) a bunch about how Roy Williams told me I'd never play in the Big XII, about how I went to Iowa State, and about how we beat Kansas the last four times I ever played them (and how good that felt).
I'll probably never completely lose that chip on my shoulder, but I spent a lot of last night's game thinking about how grateful I am that things did NOT go the way I wanted when I was 18 years old. I like my story: Iowa State on an academic scholarship thanks to Tim Floyd (and my mom's research), the early struggles, the late triumphs, the heartbreak to end it all.
It's so, so hard to remember this, but it's often true that we'll never find what's right until someone tells us we're wrong.
I can’t blame Matt for his decision, and I’ll always be grateful for everything he did for Iowa State.
That said, I’m genuinely sad about where college sports are headed. NIL has turned everything upside down. Money drives it all now. With no real regulations, the inequality is unsustainable for most programs and loyalty has become completely transactional. Entire rosters flip overnight and recruiting classes go to the highest bidder.
Even the NFL, the biggest pro sports league in the country, has a hard salary cap and massive revenue sharing to keep competition fair. College football has neither.
Something has to change.
Congratulations to @CycloneTrackXC for earning 4 points in the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk series this morning. Extended our lead in this year's series to 9-2. On our way to winning the overall Cy-Hawk series for the 4th time in last five years. Looks like a Cyclone State to me!

Everyone’s freaking out about the tariffs and the stock market dropping, but here’s the deal: This isn’t the end of the economy.
If you're a real investor, you don’t make decisions based on headlines. You think long term. The market is still up over time. Wealth is built by staying steady. When the market dips, it’s not time to panic—It’s time to buy. It’s on sale.
The only people who get hurt on a roller coaster are the ones who jump off in the middle. Stay in. Keep investing. You’ll be just fine.
Drake has done it. The Bulldogs upset Missouri, 67-57, third straight win over an SEC team.
Drake wins an NCAA Tournament game beyond the First Four for the first time since 1971.
Bennett Stirtz leads Drake with 21 points and all kinds of intangibles. Bulldogs shot 50% from both 3 and the free throw line. Also had 13 steals.
Drake is 31-3 in Ben McCollum's first year. Word is out now.
Dogs play Texas Tech or UNC Wilmington Saturday.
Happy for Andy Fales, Michael Admire, Erin Kiernan, Joey Donia and my many Drake friends.
