Police removed diabetes scientists from the convention center here in New Orleans today after they attempted to pass out copies of an editorial from a peer-reviewed scientific journal (impact factor = 16.6) that was critical of NIH.
This was maybe my favorite moment of the two and a half hour podcast because 1) it’s true and 2) I knew the viewers’ heads would explode hearing someone actually defend @IlhanMN, who has been so thoroughly, dishonestly, and ridiculously demonized and smeared in rightwing media.
Hasan Piker: “All of these Fox News guys are like I can’t believe this is what Graham Platner was doing. Pete Hegseth was literally your co-worker and was a notorious drunk rapist. I feel like I’m losing my mind, the standards are so out of wack. We just never look at Republicans. They can do whatever the fuck they want. They can literally murder, cheat, steal, rape”
The treatment of biological health conditions as though they have a mental illness origin is totally unacceptable.
The Wired article, written by a professor of religion, is an ideological hit job on the very enterprise of medicine and evidence.
Par for the course for religion.
We could invest $3B into EIP (Engineered Infection Prevention), free up thousands of hospital beds & save billions of dollars every year
Oh yeah, & save hundreds of thousands of infections & thousands of preventable deaths
EVERY. SINGLE. YEAR.
Make Hospitals Safe Again

When some MDs cosplay as scientists, they consider themselves liberated from the burden of familiarizing themselves with the peer-reviewed literature.
Who needs facts when you can just take people like this at their word, right? ;>
Patrick Bet-David: "JD Vance?"
Me: "Fraud."
Patrick: "Marco Rubio?"
Mehdi: "Liddle."
Patrick: "Jeff Bezos?"
Me: "Spineless."
Patrick: "Spineless?"
Mehdi: "What's the point of having 'fuck you money' if you never say 'fuck you'? He just rolled over for Trump."
He's turning Canada into a permanent surveillance state through contracts with Palantir while the industry is reporting historic losses in the hundreds of billions of dollars
Patrick Bet-David: "I have a local doctor I want you to go see, he specializes in TDS."
Me: "I have a guy who is a psychologist and he deals with cult members and I think he'd do well well with you guys who can't get out of the Trump cult."
Patrick: "You're so funny."
I clashed with @patrickbetdavid over his refusal to criticize Trump, especially on Iran, the economy, imperialism, Netanyahu, and more:
The Liberal government might as well have called its AI strategy “All in for AI”.
This is a document that is heavy on hype, but light on the right guardrails that we need to protect people – and to ensure that the benefits of the technology don’t just flow to a handful of tech giants and investors.
It proposes a massive boost to business adoption of AI, with no concern for the consequences this will have for workers, especially young workers who are already watching careers vanish before their eyes.
This government is imposing a world-changing technology on all of us without any public debate. Instead of putting in place strong regulations to safeguard workers, youth, privacy, and our water and energy supply, they prefer to “move fast and break things” as the Silicon Valley motto goes.
That’s why before rushing ahead, with no brakes, we need a robust regulatory framework. Every other industry in this country, from forestry to banking, is regulated. Yet somehow, when it comes to generative AI that is controlled by MAGA-aligned billionaires, the usual rules don’t apply.
New Democrats support the development of cutting edge technology. For AI, that looks like responsible machine learning with small, contained datasets and targeted applications.
We’re calling for a humans-first AI strategy. One that protects Canadian jobs, data and natural resources. Not a strategy that mimics the worst tendencies of AI chatbots: hallucinating benefits and flattering big tech CEOs by telling them exactly what they want to hear.
Y’all are on an endless loop of reinfections with a neuroinvasive virus proven to damage the area of the brain responsible for empathy and critical thinking, so good luck with that.
And sometimes, it’s really just ok not to be polite when people downplay a disease that, while perhaps invisible on the outside (or undetectable by modern tech to date, yet triangulated from multiple forms of evidence), is killing people on the inside.
It’s ok to fight for one’s life with words when everyone else is doing their absolute hardest to eliminate it from public acknowledgement and discourse.
Alan doesn’t believe Long Covid exists, yet Wired permitted him to write extensively on the subject.
If you’re not capable of understanding the basic premise of the condition, you’re not qualified to write about it.
His piece harms the entire chronic illness community.
Guy who wrote the @WIRED feature claiming zoom positivity healers and course sellers could cure long covid: there is no "long Covid"
This is why media should not be platforming pseudoscience grifters! They're just reactionary RFK style disease denialists
