As Nebraska continues to fight the threat of wildfires, I have signed a proclamation declaring emergencies in counties associated with the Morrill, Cottonwood, and Anderson Bridge fires. 

Additionally, I signed two new executive orders:

26-08 Continues the timeframe by which fire chiefs or their designated members are prohibited from issuing permits for open burning anywhere in the state.  This order is effective March 28 and continues through April 10. 

26-09 Waives hours of service restrictions and adjusts maximum load width/weight limits allowed for commercial motor carriers operating within the state and are delivering feed and other supplies under the ongoing wildfire emergency, effective March 28.

In Nebraska today, we are above the Morrill Fire this morning with the Nebraska National Guard. Over 640,000 acres have burned from the Morrill Fire — 800,000 acres across the entire state.

The scale of this devastation is something you have to see to understand.

On the ground with our firefighters, responders, and Nebraska producers. These men and women are working nonstop. True heroes in every sense.

As a veterinarian and farmer, I believe helping solve these issues is a key part of this calling.
